Best 1911 for a woman

My 24 y/o daughter 4'11" shoots a full size Government model Combat Elite in 45acp. Her choice and got it for her 21st Birthday. Both my daughters started shooting at age 8 with a Ruger MKII KMK512.

For CCW/EDC she uses a Springfield EMP. Considers any of my compact guns, HK P2000sk, M&P 9mm compact, Glock 26, Ruger SR9 etc.... all to clunky. She prefers the EMP.

Her Colt shooter is a single action and so is her CCW/EDC. Works for her, and if it works for her, it works for me.

I had originally tried to push her into one of the compacts in 9mm even tried a few 380's. Right from the beginning though, she wanted the big Colt 45acp. She shoots it well. She comes with me occasionally to shoot local club matches or at my Clubs weekly Steel shoot. She does OKAY.

Let the ladies choose for themselves. Try to rent or borrow the type SHE may be interested in. Don't try to choose for her.

Good luck to you and your lady.

Fred

P.S. My oldest daughter likes the Glock 30 best. I guess the commonality is they both like the 45acp.

Go figure.

My wife refuses to carry anything heavy in her purse. She did take a shine to my little Ruger LCP and come to think of it I have not seen it in quite a while now!

My wife originally wanted the raspberry LCP (her first gun) so that is what i got her. She still loves it, but never touches it in comparison to her SR1911. Neither is a carry piece yet, but when we get our CHL's she'll prob have the LCP in her purse. The way she dresses there is simply no way she could conceal a full size pistol.

Which ever one she shoots best. Take her to the range and let her shoot a few. If you have to stay in 9mm you have to look at the EMP & Colt Agent. IMHO she would be better served by a Kahr PM9 or CM9. They are lighter smaller and slim.

"Whichever one she shoots best" is absolutely correct. As with all things, it depends on the woman: One size does not fit all.

I use to suggest many women to use the Kahr family of guns. I owned one of the early K9 stainless with N/S and had an Elite trigger put in it in the mid-late 90's.

Most women could not work the action, or not work it comfortably. The springs were to heavy for them. Those that can work it, should find the kahr an excellent choice.

A 100% Disabled VET male friend of mine has lost his hand/arm strength too. I put him a couple of S&W early revolvers, a nice early model 10 4" and a 442. Put a Crimson trace laser on the model 10. He didn't want me to put one on the snubbie.

But just as many men don't care for a true double action trigger you will find the same for many women. It's about what THEY want and like for their reasons, not us, respect it.

Go figure.

I would think that any 1911 good enough for a man would be good enough for a woman...They really aren't that difficult to shoot, in fact, they are quite accurate and the recoil isn't too substantial.

for a carry 9mm 1911, why not get a springfield emp if you don't mind spending that much? it fits the hand perfectly (and the reach to the trigger is shorter than in a regular 1911), it's relatively light and compact, and it's a great shooter. i love mine.

I'd be thinking more about the recoil spring. Some compacts can be pretty beastly.

How is a compact 9mm 1911 compared to a .45 as far as racking the slide?

I also think the chick should choose the gun.

STI has 3 compact 9mm "1911" pistols starting around $1000. For a non 1911 carry weapon I have chosen the CZ 75D PCR, if she wants to carry condition one the CZ 75C might be a better choice. These are available for about half the price of a decent compact 1911. My 1911 carry piece is a SIG RCS, commander length slide on a officer frame. Nearly the perfect carry pistol, comes with Tritium Novak night sights, only available in .45ACP. SIG you are missing the boat by only offering one caliber in your 1911 line up! I would be first in line to get the RCS in 9mm. SIG are you listening? If I would buy a P226 in 9mm and one in .40/.357, then would I not be interested in a 9mm 1911? Sorry about the rant on SIG's limited selection of quality 1911s. All this talk about SIG has reminded me they do make a great DA/SA single stack 9mm pistol, possibly the best ever, the P239. I sold it to a friend some years back. Including my first pistol a S&W 39-2, the SIG P239 is the only pistol I have traded or sold that I miss.
