I use Federal bulk in my Ruger 22/45, works great. I think it offers excellent bang for the buck, $11.97/550 rounds.:)

I use what runs in all of my firearms, and I have some which are a little more demanding of what they eat, so I basically get the "good stuff." Which is still less than 1/4 the price of feeding a 9mm, so that's how I rationalize it.

CCI was left out for the price. I do have plenty of those and use them when rat hunting, but for good accuracy, high volume fire, is what I am looking for.

I am not going to blow through 100 rounds of CCI in 2 minutes to watch a can dance if you catch my drift.

Lots of the bulk stuff is pretty close in price and I had always wondered what was typically though of as best for the money. Seems that Federal is the overwhelming choice here. Great to know!

To be honest I have not seen the "red box" unless you are talking the american eagle stuff?

No CCI?

"Best" is subjective. Best accuracy, best bulk, best plinking, best hunting?

CCI Sub Sonic, Super accurate, super clean, relatively cheap, expands to .44 caliber.
But for strait accuracy, Eley Tenex. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

You bought Aguilla SSS, Sniper Sub Sonic. it is a 60 gr. bullet in a 22 SHORT casing. They will not cycle in semi auto's. and you need a fast twist rate, 1-9 or so, to get them accurate or they will tumble, usually.
I like them for squirrels as when they hit they hit HARD and tumble on impact. But they are accurate as all get out when the rifle matches up.

They cycle most of the time in my Ruger MKII, but like you said, they are too heavy for most .22s- I get keyholing and very poor accuracy in all of my .22s with the Aguila SSS.

FOr good cheap ammo, my vote goes to Federal champion- its not as good as Federal Gold medal or Wolf MT or any of the high end ELEY or Lapua for that matter, but its cheap, easy to find, and is accurate enough in all of my .22s.

My guns shoot it all up as long as it high velocity(not the manufaturers fault) and has never had a problem with any perticular brand.

There is another question here- What ammo STORES the best? Over the years i have had bulk packs of various 22 ammo, half shot up and sitting in a drawer. Almost all of it was VERY unreliable -I am talking 10 years stored.
There was an exception- The CCI ammo (not bulk packs, the 100 rd plastic cartons) ran well. No misfires, no weak shots.
For long term storage I would have nothing else.

I use the Centurion 40gr in my Remington 597 and it does very well. Someone said once that the Centurion was made by Aguilla, but I'm not certain. It is made in Mexico.

My Ruger 10/22's and 22/45 like Remington Golden something and Winchester jacket copper in the gray box.

My sons Remington 567 won't eat anything but CCI.

I don't have a best, but do have an outstanding not-good: Aguila subsonic (not SSS) won't reliably cycle my Ceiner AR15/.22LR converter. Other subsonic (name escapes me) works fine.

BTW: When talking "best", what application? My brother is keen on finding the "best" biathlon ammo.

And yet you have Wolf listed. Have you ever priced Wolf .22 ammo? That's one of the highest priced brands there is! :what: Whenever I'm at Cabela's, I almost buy a couple of boxes of Wolf .22's to try them, but the price always makes me put them back down. Maybe someday when I'm close to making D.E. and need a little extra push to get over the hump I might try it.

I vote for CCI Mini-Mags as the best Performance:price ratio.

CCI, runs the best through my model,41. Federal Blue or red box for everything else (Revolvers).. Remington is not worth the box it is packed in!!!!!

I've got mostly Rem Golden Bullet. It is the most consistently accurate in all of my .22s. Some like Fed Champion, some Aquila, (some hate both) but all are pretty close to an inch at 50 yds with the GB. I've also never had a rifle or pistol fail to cycle when using it.

Some people don't like that it's dirtier, but I don't mind it too bad. I don't seem to need to clean .22's any more often. (Hehehe, clean 22's, right.) No really, I do sometimes...except the Nylon 66.

Anyway, buy a few bricks of whatever's cheapest and go plinking. If you notice one's better in function or accuracy, get that one. Otherwise, get whatever's cheapest, just about anything works for plinking. YMMV

I like Federal because it is cleaner than Remington and Winchester isn't copper plated, that and my ruger 10/22 and mkII just love the stuff.

If you're talking Wally World Rem and Fed bulk packs, all of my 22's shoot the Rem more accurately. More duds with the Rem, but I can actually hit something with it. The Fed stuff runs the guns OK, but accuracy is very mediocre.

Went with Federal bulk for general plinking. For serious 10/22 work, I have mags set up for Wolf Match ammo (paper-punching) and Winchester Power-Points (gopher safari).
