Best 30 cal mag?

Looking for current thinking on the "best?" ideal 30 caliber cartridge for long range work. Ranges beyond 800-1000 meters.

300 winmag, 30-338, 300 wby, 30-378, 30-338 laupa ect.

Looking for thoughts.

In terms of shooting cost, 300 win mag is the way to go. 300 Weatherby will do it better, but ammo is big $$$.

I'm assuming you're asking in reference to shooting paper targets at 1000 yards. In that case, I would go with the .300 Weatherby, and handload 240 gr. Sierra MK's.

If this is about hunting, I suggest stalking closer.

over on the handloader's bench and baitshop poster that goes by the name 'klallen' swears by the 7.82 warbird for 2000 + yards. having never shot that far myself, i couldn't argue w/ him. also, have 'known' klallen for a long time and know he is the real deal...

the warbird runs about 200 f/s hotter than a 300 rum.

i have shot plenty out to 1200 yards and like the 300 win mag, 300 rum, and 308 win for those purposes, if restricted to 30 cal.
