Best .45 for carry?

Oh...and I guess I should add that I am 6 ft 200 lbs. I carry ALL the time often full size 1911s in ALL types of weather.

That Kimber Ultra Carry is lovely. That's what I've had my eye on. What are your thoughts between the Kimber UC II vs. the Colt Defender?

I carried a Glock-36 for several;years before finally opting for a Kahr PM-9 in a pocket holster. The Kahr 45's were not available when I purchased either the G-36 or PM-9.

I haven't done the comparisons yet but the M&P 45c sounds like a nice carry 45. I'd check it out ... it may be my next piece if I don't go with a single stack 9.

Colt over Kimber but I carry a SIG RCS 1911 4.2" slide on a compact frame. 3" 1911s are easy to conceal, difficult to control under rapid fire, and limit a marginal velocity caliber to less than desireable performance. There are plenty of posts on cycling problems with 3" 1911s, most are bull barrel pistols vs bushing barrel, this adds weight, so they are heavy for their size. I am 5'10" 175, for me the grip width and length are the hardest to conceal, not the barrel length. I holster carry the SIG or a CZ PCR 9mm and only pocket carry a .380 SIG P238 when I cannot carry a real gun. Check out the SIG http://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProductDetails/1911-rcs-nitron.aspx

I'm 6'0" 225lbs and recently picked up a Kahr PM45 for summer carry. This pistol is very easy to carry, I picked a minimal holster a "Mister Softy" from High Noon, the setup is very comfortable. Fully loaded with 6 rounds of 230g in holster the whole carry setup weighs in at ~22oz. and you just can't find a more compact .45auto...
Like all the small Kahrs this PM is also a surprisingly good shooter.

If I was carrying in .45 and not sure why I ever would there would be only one choice HK45c

I carry a Sig 220 in a Galco Royal Guard Holster and find it to be very easy to conceal and carry. I stand 6'1" and 190.

-1 on the AMT .45 backup. If you've ever shot one, to say it is a handful is an understatement.

They are. But still the smallest, save for the single shot downsizer and derringers.

They're not as unpleasant as a 340 PD, though.

I've carried many types of 45ACP pistols including a few compact polymers, but my AMT Back Up 45 is by far my favorite.

It's the smallest 45ACP semi-automatic pistol ever built. It's not much bigger than a box of ammo.

Recoil is extremely manageable, accuracy is superb at CQB distances, and this tiny stainless steel cannon eats anything It's fed.

most of the time

for me it's my SIG P220 Compact IWB.

when I'm in a suit or sport coat it's usually my full size p220.

Either a Springfield Ultra Compact or a Kimber Ultra Compact... I carry a Springfield with night sights...

Being that I am 6'6" and go 330 lbs, I can carry just about anyting I want. However, I lean towards the Kimber Pro Carry though.

I did a lot of research, shooting and wearing trying to decide what the best 45 to carry for me was. The end result was this Glock 36. It's absolutely perfect, for me. This is the one and only single stack slimline Glock. In a Crossbreed holster you literally forget you have it on.

My EDC is a Kimber Tac pro II

I have 10 1911's and and a couple of Glock 23 to choose from. I won't own a gun that I can't or won't carry. I am 5' 6"" and 170lbs. I can conceal any commander sized gun quite well in my Milt sparks VM-II. The Tac Pro II is an aluminum framed gun with a 4" barrell so the lighter weight makes it really nice. I also own a couple of Kimber Ultras and they truly are great little guns that you can almost forget you are wearing. Mine are very reliable. I can carry a full sized 1911 but I don't. I don't see the benefit of the extra inch or so of barrel being worth the extra weight and bulk.
