Best 45 sub compact

Kimber Tactical Ultra II has been a great weapon for me, have had zero problems with it for 3 yrs now. Easy to conceal, easy shooter, and like me eats everything

Not sure if there is an answer for the "best" request, since it really depends on the individual choice/taste. I looked and tried several and decided to go with Colt New Agent. I like how it feels in my hands and the "spartan" looks of the gun.

You will get 20 replys and 18 or 19 different answers which is never really helpful.

First, determine how much money you have to spend.

Go to your local gun shop and fondle the models in that price range. Rent and shoot them if possible. There is no one size fits all answer.

My Springfield Ultra Compact has been fine AFTER installing a Full length guide rod (FLGR).

Colt Defender! Surprisingly accurate, and reliable when properly tuned. It has a good "feel", or "rythm", when firing 185 grain ammunition.

For a beater and lint gatherer, I like the Glock 30. Good reliability and torture tested. But it's going to boil down to what feels good in carry mode and what you're comfortable with, If you're not comfortable with a gun, it won't shoot well for you. Find some buddies that will let you test some out and go from there...

I'll toss my two cents in here. I did the same search a year ago, and wound up with this, a Bersa UC (Ultra-Compact) 45. It's not much bigger than my Bersa .380 but carries eight rounds of 45ACP, and it's my first de-cocker. I didn't like the idea of the de-cocker going in, but I've since decided I like it a lot. I carry it all the time in place of the .380 it replaced. It's traditional DA/SA.



The sights on mine are a white outline rear with a dot front, but other options are available. Mine came with two mags, some don't, and mags are pricey. But I'm happy as a clam with mine, and it was $450 OTD with two boxes of ammo. Customer service is good, though I haven't needed it, and don't expect to. I've got about 2,000 rounds through it, it was a little balky up until about 400 rounds, it's been 100% since them. Just something to consider, if you can find one. Distribution seems kinda spotty.

Another vote for the Glock 30. I have the SF version and it has pretty much replaced my M&P9c. About the same size as a G19 and 10+1 of .45.

I'd go with the Taurus Pt145. Compact size and GREAT performance. 1000+ rounds with no problems. Most people seem to hate Taurus by I've had NO problems with mine.

I have a Colt New Agent for that. I'm lefthanded and installed a cutdown ambisafety set from Kimber that has a snubbie lever on the right side and an almost nonexistant lever on the left side (I modified both levers), added Crimson Trace and now have a lightweight Colt that rides in my front jeans pocket with the grip out. No holster and the safety is protected against me.

This setup draws fast and the red dot is zero'd. I can put every round on the dot out to 25 yds without needing to bring the pistol to an aiming position, meaning I don't need sights.

This is the quickest concealed carry system I've devised to date and I'm practicing every day. The pistol has not hiccoughed in any way in over 700 rds and it weighs exactly 30 oz. fully loaded with eight. That's exactly one ounce lighter than my Glock 19 fully loaded and the New Agent is smaller than the G19 too. (someone tell me that the Glock has 16 rounds to the Colt's eight...)

So far. it works for me!

For me, a sub-comp .45 is a backup gun, which means I want it as simple and reliable as possible. If I'm using it, it means everyting else has already gone wrong.

Allow me to throw in something a little different:

A Smith and Wesson Chief's Special .45. Seven shots of .45 in a pretty small package. DA/SA, good sights, and a nice looking gun to boot.

It will use the same mags as the 4513, and they're not terribly expensive.

I'd also throw in a Kimber Ultra Carry. Not the series II, if at all possible. It's actually a bit more compact and thinner than the CS45.

Colt 3 inch

I'd recommend one of the 3 inch Colt 1911s, either the New Agent or Defender. I've had a Defender for a couple of years and it operates perfectly. It is very flat and easy to conceal with thin grip panels.

I too really like my 3" Colt (sad I can't get a New Agent ). The S&W 457 might also be worth a try- I like those as well.

PT145 Great trigger, second strike, eleven rounds of 45acp, no hammer to hang up on clothing. I added Williams fire sights to mine and it is my constant companion.

I've found my Colt New Agent to be reliable, accurate enough considering it's a gutter sighted gun, and so easy to carry that I forget it's there.
