Sorry if I wasn't clear. I wasn't assuming you'd want a 5.56x45mm. My suggestion was about the platform.

True, there's no reason you can't have a AR upper in any of the AK calibers. *shrug* I'm not really looking for an AR for this build.

ARs in 7.62x39 are plagued by magazine issues if you go over 10 rounds. The 5.45x39 seem as reliable as 5.56 ARs are with the available 5.45x39 30 round AR mags.

RRA has shown an AR that uses AK mags, but it seems to have a non-standard upper as well as the special lower.

My 7.62x39 AR SBR is my favorite rifle to shoot suppressed, but it is pretty much FMJ only and it took a lot of futzing around with the mags (swapping in springs from a "real" comblock AK mag helped a lot) to get it to where I can expect to go 6+ 30 round mags without a stoppage.

If you can live with something closer to the Draco-C (11.5" barrel) Centerfire Systems has a Polish "Hellpup" 7.62x39 pistol for $540.

I've no relationship with Centerfire Systems other than as a customer (a couple of guns, ammo, and some parts) and am just passing along the info in their marketing Email that arrived a few minutes ago.
