Best 7 rem mag factory load

You must have picked the worst 7mag load available.

I picked one that is over the counter & highly available. It was Super-X PP. Your knowledge of what a 7mmRM can or cannot do to a deer at 800 big steps sounds more like theory, as I freely admit mine is as well. But the numbers for the 7mag at 800 are like a 30-30 at 400 yards! Who would reccommend that? An ignorant person.

I figured if I did it would just draw attention to his ignorance. It is people like him that take the fun and education out of a sights like THR.

What part of what I said was ignorant? I posted real ballistics on a real load. You might be forced to shoot that exact load out of your rifle when the Hornady Super-Dupers don't group out of your tube.

You must have picked the worst 7mag load available. 7mm bullets have great BC's and the 7mag has plenty of powder for ample energy to take deer at 800 yards. Now whether someone has the skills to put one in the kill zone at that distance under field conditions is another matter, but the 7mag is up to the task.

Why they shot good in somebody's gun so the MUST shoot good in the OP's so stop spreading misinformation!

Some more misinformation for 800yds figures
162grn Black Hills Hornady A-Max (not a hunting bullet) 1858fps and 1241 ft lbs
165grn Federal sierra gameking spbt- 1536fps and 864 ft lbs----56" of drift in a 10mph wind
160grn Winchester Accubond CT--- 1657fps and 976 ft lbs
160grn Nosler accubond----------- 1767fps and 1109 ft lbs
160grn Cor-Bon DPX Barnes-------- 1348 fps and 646 ft lbs
150grn Federal Nosler ballistic tip-----1673 fps and 932 ft lbs
140grn Winchester Ballistic Silvertip---1643 fps and 839 ft lbs

notice only the most fragile of these loads (bullet wize) manages to stay above thier minimum velocity expansion threshold at 800yds

I won't dispute shooting game at 800 yards is a less than stellar idea for most people. This particular scenario is technically theory on my part, since I use a 308, and keep the distance under 600 where I feel confident. I can tell you killing deer with a 308 is not a problem to 600 if you hit them where you should. That said, the figures above from krochus are much better than most 44 magnum velocity and energy numbers at 50 yards(actually in most cases at the muzzle). I'm sure most people feel a 44 magnum is adequate for deer at less than 50 yards. In addition, the 7mm high BC makes it as good a choice as most factory offerings for long range hunting. In most cases the difference of stepping up to the 300wm would be negligible. Sure you could go into the weatherby's, the 338's(esp. lapua) or 50 bmg and have much more energy, but at a significant cost and recoil. For a reasonable cost and manageable recoil, the 7mag will do the job fine. Far and away the biggest factor is the shooter's ability(or lack thereof).

You omit the really important fact that a .44 magnum bullet at 50yds will still expand reliability or at the very least will make a .430" hole. the same cannot be said for many of the (most of) 7mm mag loads I show above

They'd make a .284 hole, but yeah picking a bullet that would expand at the velocity you plan to hit the animal with would be key. Any old bullet would not work of course. But if you are serious about taking animals at 800 yards, you are the type of person who would be paying attention to these type details(and many others). I'm not going to dispute that you can find many loadings that are less than ideal for the task, but there are plenty that are. I mostly was calling out the post that said the 7mag had 500 ft lbs of energy at 800 yards. That is simply not true for nearly all cases. Across the board it has very nearly twice that, in some cases more than twice that.
