Best All Around Gun?

I'd prefer a rifle to, probaby a Marlin 30-30.
But they're pretty hard to CCW.

Ruger single six 22 mag. can hold crap loads of ammo, has good power, accurate and the pistol is know for outstanding reliability.

As far as I'm concerned you need at least two guns in your arsenal if nothing else. You need a 12 gauge shotgun with all of the necessary loads from birdshot to slugs and a good .22 rifle. If I had to pick one over the other I might pick the 12 gauge. You can hunt just about anything with it if you have the right loads and it can serve double duty as a home defense/personal defense weapon. And if you wanted to you can make them more concealable (cut down the barrel and slap on a pistol grip). To me you can't go wrong if you have at least those two things.

5 shot, L-frame sized revolver, 4.5" bbl, in .45 colt (alternate choice .44 mag). Can do it all, from taking large game to self-defense, and with shotshells, can kill birds on the wing, too. If one of your needs is not CCW carry, then forget the handgun - the answer becomes a 12 gauge shotgun. This correct answer will remain the same for the next 4926 threads with this question, just as it has in all the prior ones up till now. :)

FNP-9 with a 17+1 capacity, made in America, and $350 of scary accuracy....Yeah that would be the one I took with me.

If I was forced to lug a hog leg around it would be the Thunder Ranch .44 Mag my friend has. I wouldn't mind the .45 one though.

I don't know and I'm glad that I can have different tools for different jobs. God Bless America.

The best gun for everything would be a 357 revolver that I can shoot 38s in when I want. For concealed carry, 5 shot would be best. For hiking and target shooting, I'd prefer a longer barrel and single action.

Has anyone ever heard of ccw a cimarron lighting 3.5" bbl?

any gun chosen that fill all your criteria will do one or two well and two or three pourly. the pistol that comes to mind as the best in the MOST categories is the Ruger Mk III 22/45 w/ 4" barrel. the thing it doesnt do well is ccw. even with super whiz bang ammo, its a toss up and would be a personal choice. however, hiking, camping, target shooting, light hunting chores, cost (they can be had new for 300 or less), and ammo availability and cost its got in spades.

A 70-year old military retiree in the Louisville area took out two thugs with eleven rounds from his semi-auto. If he would've only had a five or six shot revolver, he would've been a dead man. Thanks to his high-cap semi-auto, he prevailed over the perps. Chalk up yet another "V" for a "good guy" carrying a semi-auto.
How many of the 11 shots were hits?

underfolder AK. Fold it up and stuff it down your pant leg for the CCW part.

There is no "Best all around gun". One type of firearm does one thing, another does another thing. You can't conceal a hunting rifle, but you can't kill a deer (all that well) with a handgun. A more appropriate title would be, "What would be your pick for good handgun". Same for rifles.

I agree that semi auto pistols would probably be slightly better IF there was a need for it, ie, multiple targets, or more misses, due to stress. More capacity (even the neutered 10 round compliant models), quicker reloading, quicker firing and acquisition (for MOST people).

My all around HANDgun, that I personall own, would be my EMP. Concealable, incredible accuracy, magazine loaded.
