Best all reason all season semiauto

I'm just going to borrow @bannockburn's picture and give an answer that will surprise nobody: Shield Plus. Reliable, great ergos (for me), 13-round mag.

Now, with that said, the question was "all reason, all season." The Shield Plus is probably unbeatable for me and my lifestyle. If my lifestyle included more time on farms and in the woods, my "reasons" might change, and my answer might be different.

If an “all reason-all season” pistol means needing something bigger that a 9MM, I like the .40/10MM’s a lot.

I have been playing around with 10MM lately but honestly it’s brought me back to my G23 Gen4 in .40S&W. This was my first Glock back in 2010 and the one I really developed my skills on. Carried it a lot. Ran it in several Gunsite classes and put many thousands (over 12K) of rounds through…so many that the stock trigger is the BEST Glock trigger I’ve ever used…and that includes a few different aftermarket options.

I’ve had it sitting in the safe way too long and decided to revive it. It’s in the shop awaiting a slide milling and
red dot sight mounting. Then it will get a TLR-7/8 light and I’ll have a holster made.

So…short answer made way too long, I think my “all reason-all season” pistol will probably go full circle back to my G23-4.

Given the "all-reason, all-season" nature of the OP, mine would be chambered in 40S&W.

I would prefer a Glock 48 in 40S&W but since they don't offer that I would loosen the belt more and settle for a G23.

40S&W isn't my preferred carry for streets that would be 9mm, but if only one and "all-reason, all-season" which includes both 4-legged and 2-legged defense and that I enjoy the outdoors hunting, fishing and hiking; I would step it up to 40S&W.

I sometimes carried a Glock 26 in my pocket at work. In order to pull it off it I had to be working nights and I had to be wearing black BDU pants. Being the only person on site helped too

You are not going to get away with a Glock 26 in polite Society they're going to know you've got something in your pocket.

I live in Colorado. Right now it's 13° outside and I could probably get away with concealing an M3 if I didn't extend the stock.

But seriously, I live in a fairly dry climate so I can usually get away with a cotton cover shirt all year long. So the Majority of the time I carry a Glock 19.

If limited to semi auto it would be my Girsan p 35 pi. Out of all my semi autos, it's the one I shoot best. Easy to carry. Accurate, and plenty of ammo on board. if we broaden the scope of the question to all reason all season handgun. Hands down it would be my S&W model 19 with a 2.5 inch barrel. With the right holster not bad to conceal. And you can go from mild to wild ammo wise.

I literally just ordered a Girsan MC P35 for $380........... Yes the site is legit, I vetted it first.

My close second choice would be the Glock G40 MOS 10mm. I shoot the FNH FNX-45 Tactical a little better.

We need more photos of Glocks for the members who don't know what they look like ;)

'm just going to borrow @bannockburn's picture
Thanks for leaving out the Glock

On a slightly more serious note, while I tend to a bigger heavier pistol in God's Caliber during the winter, there are some good compromise pistols with decent firepower in more concealable packaging. The Shield Plus as pointed out is a nice balance, but if I need to go smaller and lighter, but still have some capacity, I find the SIG P-365 X/XL pistols to be my personal sweet spot.

All reason/all season....for an OWB carry guy like me, it'd boil down to a .45 ACP 1911 like the Sig RCS below, or one of my Browning Hi Powers....the one below is a pretty faithful copy...it's a Springfield SA-35. Currently, it's the most accurate of the three BHP types in my safe. The other two are both Brownings, one in 9mm and the other in .40 S&W.

For all day carry, a good 1911 or BHP will do nicely...and with an abundance of good loads, they'll suit most any purpose. Their weights are just about right to soak up recoil to allow good timely 2nd shots, and the two below are also blessed with excellent Novak type sights. Long familiarity with their grips and triggers has left me with on indelible muscle memory. No other auto's fit me as well, and none can beat their accuracy in my hands, From thistle tops to self defense encounters, they'll do quite well.

I carry, on the belt, back at the 3:30 or 4;00 position, and find they present in a timely fashion, Too, they're easy to conceal in that position under a shirt tail or jacket. I wear one or the other a cpl times a week here on the farm....and sometimes to town if the mood strikes me. I do have a Sig .22 Upper assembly that works well with the 1911 and dearly wish I could find something similar for the SA-35. Ciener might be an option but they're just not easy to find....

YMMv, but here are my choices. Best regards, Rod

I go a step further and only carry DAO, no safety, plastic fantastics with a hammer that can be thumbed during re-holstering, no de-cocker needed
I've been interested in a DAO for a while but not a lot of current production options.

What model(s) fit the bill here?

A C-96 Mauser...

OK. I admit I've been snorting too many Drano crystals...

This is a thread that will get a bazillian responses with all posters thinking all of the other posters of having their headspace and timing off. ( I learned that from 12Bravo20, It means the operator is an idiot! )

So how about this: There is no right or absolute answer. Whatever one feels comfortable with, and can handle competently, is the way to go for that individual. ;)

What a coincidence I have a used G23 that's looking for a good home. It needs someone to love it the way I just can't...........
