I just picked up my first AR and now looking for ammo to try it out. What is the best (for the $) ammo that comes in bulk and where can i get this at. This is for the range only and not self defense. I have already picked up a couple hundred rounds of Hornady TAP for the house. TIA.

Buy 55gr fmj's from midway, once fired brass from brassmanbrass.com and the best press you can afford. Try Win748, 2230, varget or whatever powder you like. Other than that, I have no idea ;). Haven't bought factory for a while. FWIW, Wolf makes my mini stink like Russia.

As far as I can see there really aren't any bust out deals to be had.
Wolf is less than regular brass cased ammo , some like it for blasting, some don't like the steel case, lighter loads and less than stellar accuracy.
In general you can save some if you buy 500 round cases mail order but it only looks like a decent deal when you compare to the crazy prices at the local sporting goods store.
Fed XM193 is the old standby for performance,I have had good results with the Prvi 55 gr 193.
The good old days of dirt cheep South African,Guat, and Radway RORG
are a thing of the past.
I myself reload for matches, grin and bear it with new ammo (and save all the brass) and try to confine most of my "blasting" to when I have the Ceiner rimfire conversion in the gun

I like the remmy /umc bulk pac, and if you can find the red box American eagles, which is Feddy's bulk pac, these are both good, reliable, and plenty accurate for plinking or game hunting.

Sportsman's Guide has OK prices on bulk Federal and Wolf brass (PRVI Partisan_ cased FMJ ammo. It is running about ~$95 for 240 rounds.
