I have a new 257 Weatherby Mag I have several boxes of ammo 100 grain hornady spire point or 110 grain accubond. Both seem to shoot about same.
Which would be best to keep back for deer hunting this fall as I am new to the Weatherby

Nosler's 115 grain Ballistic Tip would be best for deer.

As between the two that you have on hand, the better choice would likely be the Hornady.

Those things are really screaming along from that gun/caliber the first 150 yards or so, meaning they'll open up very very rapidly. Therefore, I'd try to slow down the expansion some by opting for the accubond, definitely. Unless going for a neck shot. If shooting ONLY at long range, then the hornady would be perfect - are there gonna be any short-ish shots possible?

I read somewhere to limit velocity of the accubond to 3100 fps. Where i hunt is a open field along the woods.
Its hard to determine what distance might be depending on where they come out

at 257 wby velocities bullet selection is much more critical than something like a 257 roberts. even the 25-06 will make a mess w/ poor bullet selection.

if i were in this situation, i'd be looking for a 120 grain bullet in a standard cup-and-core design, or an 85-100 grain bullet in a monolithic design.

i have shot my fair share of deer w/ quarter-bores, and i remember a couple kills w/ my 25-06 and 100 grain ballistic tips that were sickening... i don't have a 257 wby, but am very aware of their potential for ballistics and potential for problems w/ less than good bullet selection.

good luck!

I'd go for the Accubond especially if it is traveling along at 3000+ fps. It would also be better for a mixed-bag hunt.

The one that hits it in the right spot and transfers enough destructive energy to the correct organs!

Another vote for an Accubond. Or, go to heavier bullets, as they tend to have heavier jackets and have slower expansion at high impact velocities. I shot a number of whitetails, at ranges under 100 yards, with 154 Hornadys out of my 7mm Wby at about 3000 fps muzzle velocity. They performed perfectly and did not damage much meat.
