There are a number of Kimber and Springfield models that retail at or just below the $1000 mark.

BEST? Chances are you'll get a different answer for each reply. There are a LOT of different 1911 models out there, even if you stay below $1,000.

You got your budget in mind, next part is to decide what features you'd like.

For easy to find under $1K, I like the Colt Defender/New Agent series. For just a touch over $1K (maybe less if used, or if you're really lucky) I like the Springfield EMP.

Those are what I've got and have a decent amount of experience with.

No way I'm steppin' into this quicksand when posted by a guy named "Glockky" supposedly looking for a 1911.:D

Well, I am waiting for long term user reports on that Ruger...

:)

I would highly suggest if you can swing it an STI Intl. "Guardian" in .45 ACP. est.$1,100.
It is like the Colt "Defender", just with better sights and better quality. (which is hard for me to say since I am a Colt guy.)

Same here, just waiting for them to flood the market. Once they get a bit more out there the price should level out some.

Full Size GI 1911/1911A1.
Served our troops well in two world wars, Korea, Vietnam......etc.

Springfield, RIA, Remington, Auto Ordnance and others all make a version for well under $1000. Choose the one you like.

I would suggest the STI Trojan or the Duty One if you like fixed sights. I have the STI Spartan and a Les Baer and I can say that STI does a good job with their guns.

<$1,000.00 ?

How about <$500.00

New Citadel 3 1/2" 1911 .45 ACP for well less than $500.

By my records, I now have over 1,300 rounds through mine and it just keeps getting better.:D

I've been using it (because it is so much fun) rather than my 5" 1911, in our IDPA matches (with 8-round mags that stick out a bit;) )

JMHO - YRMV

I'd go with the Kimber Ultra CDP II that I bought a few years ago for ~$990.00. Change the ambi safety to the strong side version and put some slim grips on it.

New Citadel 3 1/2" 1911 .45 ACP for well less than $500.
that was my choice, as well. Runs like a top with good magazines - I am quite glad I didn't shell out for the Kimber equivalent.

I have been wanting a CCO size as a companion, but I don't need one, the Citadel is more than sufficient for my needs.

I just bought this for my new EDC.

I love the Sig C3 with the 4.25" barrel and the officer frame.

Upgraded grips to VZ slimline. all for less than $1K.

SIG Scorp Carry, SIG TACOPS Carry or C3.... all GREAT deals, all well enough under 1K to add 500rds of ammo in also.

any of the springfield loaded 1911's. or get a gi model and put the balance into it.... thats what i did and i love it.

Springfield Loaded. Forged steel, has the most common upgrades already done.

Best out of box M1911 for the dollar right now.
