best choice for under 1200.00

hello all I am wanting to buy a rifle.It will be mainly used to deer hunt with.
Id like it to be very accurate.Of these 3 choices which would work best
1 Remington Sendero SF in 300 win Mag
2 Sako 85 in 30-06 since thier 300 only has 24 barrel
3 Weatherby Accumark in 257
Id appreciate all your feedback if any own these or has shoot

There really is no one rifle that fits every hunting need.

I am in NC yes I used to hunt alot used 25_06 270 and 7 mm rem mag

My deer rifle, when I eventually am somewhere conducive to hunting deer, will be a $100 sporterized Swedish Mauser (with a nice 4x Weaver scope) that I've been keeping just for that reason.

Why would you need something as expensive as $1200 or as potent as a .300 Win Mag for deer?

Who said anything about "need"? Since when did "need" make any difference?1 If he "wants" it then he should get it!

If it were me, I'd go with the Sendero. However, for $1200 you could probably put together a custom rig that'd shoot even better. $1200 would probably buy you a donor gun, a custom barrel and an aftermarket stock.

Thank you Strong.Id just like to have a nice rifle,have had several but none were what you say really nice guns.I did look at Jarrett rifles but abit more than I want to pay.What custom ones do you know of for 1200

I think 1200 dollars is a good budget for a rifle and a scope that will provide a lifetime of service. I don't see why we should give this guy a hard time. Me, I personally do not have 1200 dollars in my budget to spend on a deer rifle and therefore use cheaper materials. But if you've got it, flaunt it.

For 1200 you could get any Remington you want (my preference is for a high model 700 in .308 Winchester) and an intermediate priced Leupold (I'd say something 3-9x in, say, the Rifleman series). That's my recommendation to you, sir. Good luck and happy hunting.

Of your choices, the Sako .30-06. .300 WM is overkill for any deer and will only serve to reduce your markmanship due to excessive recoil.

My deer rifle is a Remington 700 BDL in .25-06. I've never had a deer go further than 20 yards after being shot.

I also have considered the 25-06 also I did have one but it was the small Remington mountain rifle,never did like how it shot,But friends Varmint bdl and Ruger 77 shot great

Hey, I've got no problem with anyone spending a lot on a deer rifle. I've spent way more on guns with way less practical use.

My point was simply that one doesn't have to spend much to get a fully functional hunting rifle. I couldn't tell from the original post if speed_kills thought a big budget was a necessity.

The Weatherby Mark V, especially in .257 Wea. Mag is a real sleeper! I have taken whitetail deer at 525 yards with that combination...one shot, one kill. Factory loads are great, and handloads are shockingly effective. Given the cost of Weatherby ammunition, I almost always reloaded.

I did not own the Accumark. It isn't needed...very heavy, and has the same guarantee. I owned the Deluxe, the Fibermark and currently own the synthetic. All of the Weatherby rifles have guarantee of 1.5" at 100 yards.

Hint: Buy one that has the target in the box, even if you have to buy the model from Japan. I say this because with reloads, I was always able to beat the factory target (except 1 defective .270 WM). I used to photocopy the factory target, and my personal target and send them to Mr. Weatherby. He also always wrote back.

Weatherby loves to hear from its customers, and Mr. Weatherby is very involved in his company. You can't go wrong with Weatherby. I suggest a .300 Win. Mag in a Synthetic, and I put my money where my mouth is. Use the rest of the money for a Leupold scope. By the way, a .300 Win Mag is not overkill. I also used a .300 Wea Mag.

I am very interested in the 257 I just dont know anyone who has 1 or shot a Weatherby rifle.Would the Accumark be as accurate and the Sendero SF

The weatherby is awsome but expensive to feed, the sako is almost as nice but cheap to feed and has many options in feeding. So the question is shoot more or shoot less. Not to mention the '06 will take anything in NA.

Re: Accumark V Sendero, I uncle owned both. He sold the Accumark because it was not nearly as accurate. Remington makes a wicked barrel!

As I said earlier, get the Mark V with a target inside of the shipping box. As such you know precisely the rifle's ability. If you want, you can upgrade to a MOA Accumark, meaning it comes with a 1" warranty, not he standard 1.5".

Sako in 6.5 x 55. This would be the last rifle you would ever need.
