I'm in the market for a small pistol, preferably in 9mm. I'd really prefer to buy it new, but I am always open to suggestions. What would be a feasible pistol in my price range? I've so far been thinking a Kel-tec P11 or Bersa Thunder 380. I like the P11's more powerful cartridge, but the Bersa I believe is more reliable (reliability being my biggest concern). What do you think; should I just bite the bullet and spend another $150 to get a XD, CZ, Glock, etc., get the P11 or Bersa, or other ideas?

reliability being my biggest concern

In that case: CPO 239

Or the G - G - G - G - that one - they don't fail either.

Bersa Ultra Compact 9....I have one and paid 450 for it...it is a fine weapon...I use if by my nightstand...and also for carry...have several hundred rounds through it and no hiccups...mine has the stainless barrel and two tone black and stainless...

My first thought is Kahr CW9. Bud's has it for $388.

WHY are you guys suggesting the G17?? That is not a compact

After the $50 rebate, a S&W M&P 9C runs in the low $400s and you get two additional magazines, for a total of four. Its a very nice gun. I bought one for my wife and she loves it.

I can wholeheartedly recommend the G19/G26, but if you absolutely don't want to save up I'd probably go with the Bersa Thunder 9mm. I think you'd be wise to save for the Glock though, especially if reliability is as big of a concern as you say it is. You could pick up a Kel-Tec or Bersa and find it to be very reliable...but I can say without hesitation that I'd trust my life to my Glock. In nearly 1,000 rounds it hasn't had a single malfunction in my hands!

Disclaimer: I'm not saying Glock should be everyone's favorite pistol, but for a reliable compact 9mm you would be very hard-pressed to go wrong with one.

I just picked up this West German Police Sig Sauer P6. It is the european version of the Sig P225. You can buy one for $325-$375. I highly recommend them.

Here's mine.
