I have been shooting for years at a local Highpower range. The gentleman there copied a style of scoring disc that they claim came from a Mississippi club. Since I don’t know the extra origin, I cannot give proper credit. Any way pictures of the disc concept are here:

The size and proportions can be guessed from the pictures.

The first advantage of this scoring disc is that it stays in the hole. As we all know the holes get ovaled and worn on a target backer and the scoring disc will eventually fall out. This design hangs in the hole. The 45 degree offset dowel will keep that thing in the target backer under heavy wind conditions.

The second advantage of this scoring disc is that it is easy to handle. The raised block of wood is easy to grasp and maneuver. One club I go to, they reduced the shaft length to the diameter of the disc. That design, while better than a standard scoring disc, turned out to be slower to orient when inserting it into the scoring hole location. You just could not see what you were doing. It also fell out on occasion.

Anyway I think this is a great idea and thought it was worth sharing. Wish I knew the place of birth, those guys desire two thumbs up.

Must have been at ADEC. We have never used them at Benning but I am concidering making some up for the 1K range. I won't have them ready for this weekends regional though.

Well, Gentlemen, I did take these pictures at AEDC last weekend. But I think Danny Haggard was the maker of these value markers. And if my hazy memory is right, he said the idea came out of Mississippi.
