I have two lemon trees in my yard, so that works well for me. I just give the trees a shake before I go. :D

I like the idea of ice. I'm going to bring some big ice cubes with me next time.

I know you said fruit, but (and it's always a big butt)

A group of us have been using eggs. They are cheap enough when purchased in the 18 packs from Wal-Mart.

For extra fun we hard boil them.

I've never done it, but i've been told that heads of lettuce are among some of the best things to shoot. Supposedly, because they are mostly water anyway, they explode nicely and throw pieces of green all over. Lettuce can't be too expensive ;)

Best Vegetable to Shoot

Broccoli.

God, I hate broccoli.

I still have nightmares from my childhood years, when my parents force-fed me brocolli because it was supposedly "good for me."

I often fantasize about going down to the local supermarket, buying up their entire stock of broccoli, bringing them to the range, and then shooting them up.

Granted, broccoli isn't exactly a reactive target, but the immense satisfaction to be had from mowing down heads of broccoli would be satisfaction enough.

A couple years back we had a whole case of oranges go bad before we ate them.....I shot the whole case in my woods out back..the whole area smelled great for a few days.....and the deer had something to munch on...

Pineapples

My wife used to work for a produce distributor, so i've gotten to shoot a LOT of produce that was past the point of sellable. Pineapples were, by far, the most fun to shoot. When you hit one, the little green leafy tops would shoot up in the air.
