Best full size 1911 concealed carry holster?

For Concealed carry, I find an inside the waistband can hide a full size 1911, as long as you can tuck the grip close to your body. I use a Texas IWB by Adams Holsters, because he is local and I like the leather. Of almost equal importance is a sturdy belt and I use a Wilderness Instructor's belt to hold everything in place. Just search the web for a plethora of options.

I use a Defender IWB from LAG Tactical. Coupled with a solid belt and some Perry suspenders, that gun sits up tight against my side and I hardly remember it's there.

I wear a shirt over the suspenders so nobody knows I am wearing them.

I use a MacDaniels II from Andrews leather. (actually 2 I have one for a Sig as well)

Works great with a good belt. Really sucks the but in tight to the body.

Milt Sparks Versa Max 2 if supplemental retention is not necessary.

I remove the rear strap and mount a single point rubber strap on the bottom post to increase forward cant.

I hate my DM Bullard Dual Carry. It is very uncomfortable due to the extra leather under the front attachment point. Compare the photos to see what I mean.

I've been using a Crossbreed Supertuck for a few years now.

I recommend this holster as well. Very comfortable, hides the gun very well, AND you can tuck your shirt into it. I wear slacks and dress shirt to work with a good gun belt. No one has ever noticed anything. Means it WORKS.

During the winter. shoulder holsters do well. Comfy and hold extra mags.(aside from mu Cochise leather. its just comfy)

A good IWB holster with do well. I carried a taurus judge with an iwb and i'm more than likley the shortest person on the forum.

IWB are a bit uncomfy though

I'm using a Crossbreed SuperTuck for my 4" 1911. Not quite a 'full size' but it's more comfortable to carry and conceals better than my G26 in a CB ST. I like their holsters so I stick with them.

I wouldn't mind getting a Milt Sparks someday but can't justify spending $200 on one when I'm happy with CB ST. Plus...if I liked it...I would have to buy one for all of my carry guns :banghead:

I carry my 1911 in a Milt Sparks Summer Special II - disappears under an untucked shirt. I was always an OWB guy, (and still prefer it when I can) but an IWB rig like the SS2 just conceals better.

I like the Comp-Tac Minotaur for everyday IWB carry.

For rough country, camping, field work, etc. the wilderness tactical Safepacker doesn't look like a holster (more like a toolkit) & provides good protection for the piece as well as concealment.

Don't like IWB. Never found one that felt right. I use a Yaqui slide. Several makers, some even (though it sort of defeats the purpose) have a thumb snap, for those who need such things.

.....jeepnik, I envy you......back in the mid-70's I got a Sparks Yaqui slide because Jeff Cooper made them look just so uber-cool! I still have a couple of them and they're getting stupid-$ for them on ebay. My problem with them was two fold:
1. A number of times I'd sit down in an armchair and brush up against the arm as I sat down. The arm of the chair would hit the muzzle of the gun and as I seated myself, the handgun would be pushed up and out of the holster; no doubt that's more a factor of my fat butt than of poor holster design, but it happened numerous times.
2. The second problem I had was that during the draw stroke, if my elbow didn't come straight back and then hug into my body, the gun would cant as I drew it and the gun would basically be twisted slightly and the muzzle wouldn't clear the holster. Again, a function of a poor draw, not poor holster design.

I watched Cooper and others draw from their Yaqui slide just as slick as snot on a doorknob and have been envious of guys that can use them ever since. I just could never master it (or them).

The most common recommendations would be either of a couple of Milt Sparks holsters, either the Versa Max II (VM II) or Summer Special/Summer Special II (SS/SS II)
I'm a big fan of the Summer Special or Summer Special II. I consider them the best concealment holsters around. YMMV. ;)

Crossbreed for IWB.
Ravens for OWB.

I just make my own OWB's now. But none conceal as well as a Crossbreed. Nighttime stuff, the OWB works well.

I made metal belt loops, ignore the plastic oones in the pic:

I can see that might happen to some, never had a problem myself. Oh, and I have one I had made up custom that canted the 1911 just enough to make it useable as a cross draw. The guy who made it has passed, and I suppose I should look for someone to make another using the first as a pattern.
