Im just glad I live in a pretty damn good gun state,Louisiana. Shall issue, your car is an extension of your home so you can have loaded guns in there,we have they pretty damn fair car jacking law, and some other nice things.

this thread goes to show that there is no really awesome places they all have trade off's.

unfortunately Maine doesn't have reciprocity but it does allow non resident carry permits. And you can't carry in a establishment that serves alcohol.

Wardog:
I lived in Colorado and I didn't like denver or the CBI I dislike the idea of state burueas of investigation. The car being an exstension of your home is a great law though.

Maybe I will make that site. I don't know how to do it but it would be useful.

Are you sure about that? I was under the impression that it's perfectly legal to carry your firearm in bars and alcohol-serving restaurants here in Maine. The only off-limits places I'm aware of are public schools, labor disputes, courts and other buildings under control of the Maine Judicial Branch, anywhere legally posted to prohibit possession of a firearm in a manner that would likely to come to the attention of patrons (and in such case you can still CC), and of course anywhere federally prohibited.

Anyone care to tell me more about Washington or Tennesee?
Well, Washington's not too bad. Standard capacity mags good, no AWB, anything goes except (unfortunately) there's no Class III, but ... We're the original shall-issue state, 60 bucks initial CPL -- NO training requirement, good for 5 years, 35 bucks to renew. Reciprocity increasing -- about six or eight states last I checked and a few more on top of those that recognize ours. Plenty of outdoors to shoot in, gun clubs near every town, and a number of decent indoor ranges around the Puget Sound area.

(For the record, I escaped San Diego myself and have much enjoyed WA for the past ten years or so while not traveling abroad thanks to my uncle.)

What is Louisiana chopped liver?

I don't know if top 10 or not. But I have always lived in LA and I have always had guns. You have always been able to open carry. For crying out loud its the sportsman's paradise. You can buy ammo in convenience stores! :D A few years back we passed CCW laws. You can have guns in your car concealed or not. Your car is an extension of your house.

A bystander shot and killed a man this weekend in Baton Rouge that was beating up a cop. When he heard the officer cry out for help, he walked over to his vehicle and chose one of two he had in there, a .45 acp. A good thing he chose that because he had to shoot the guy in the back of the head because after the cop shooting him in the stomach and the bystander shooting him 4 or 5 times in the chest he was still struggling to get the gun form the cop.:what: :what: The NAACP is up in arms because the man that was killed was black and the cop and bystander were white. No charges brought against the bystander as of yet and I doubt that there will be from what I hear.

Montana is very good. It is one of the six or seven states that got an F from the Brady bunch.

Here is a good summary:
http://www.mtssa.org/shootprivprop.phtml

"...Certainly, the laws of Montana contain many examples of statutes which support the right of citizens to possess and use firearms.

"Also, there are laws restricting firearms possession and use in other states which have not been adopted in Montana, not because they are secret or unknown and not by accident, but because it is not the will of the people of Montana. These restrictions absent in Montana include: No registration of
firearms; no registration of firearm owners; no permits required to buy firearms; no permits required to own firearms; no permits required to possess firearms; no permits required to transport firearms; no permits required to buy ammunition; no storage requirements for firearms or ammunition; no state waiting period for firearm purchase; no limit on the firearms a person may buy in a specified period; no sales tax on firearms or ammunition; no personal property tax on firearms or ammunition; no limit on the number of
firearms a person may own; no limit on the number of firearms a person may keep at home; no "arsenal license" required for storage of multiple firearms; no gun locks required by law; no state background check for firearm purchase; no regulation of private firearm sales between individuals; no legal duty to retreat or flee if attacked; no permits needed to operate a shooting range outside cities; no permit required to carry concealed weapons outside cities;
no licenses, permits or registration to own machine guns; no licenses, permits or registration to own silencers; no restrictions on firearm type or caliber for general game hunting; no regulation of gun shows or firearm sales
at gun shows; no permits for gun shows; virtually no restrictions to shooting on public or private lands outside cities. ..."

Why haven't I heard ALASKA yet. according to www.opencarry.org, they have fairly common open carry. They have a VT carry system, but you may obtain a shall issue permit for reciprocity or obtaining permits from other states.Haven't heard 'bout them having any other problems.

As said Mn is a pretty gun friendly place once you get outside of the twin city area. maybe the highest per capita hunter to general population state, Some of our limitations are slowly being whitled away.

Even in the Twincities high populations of hunters who tend to force the hand of those who are anti's. We have bad local TV with only one station making any effort to have an outdoor programing.

Tennessee is a pretty gun friendly state, although probably not number one. Positives are, we have state-wide shall issue concealed carry (requires classroom training plus minimal target qualification), no waiting periods or limitations on how many, reciprocity with many of the states in our region. Background check and approval systems are very quick. Example; Dec. 23 '05 I went to my preferred dealer to pick up a snubbie I bought from someone on TFL. There were 4 guys in front of me doing the paperwork & fingerprints. When we were all done, one of the shop owners picked up the phone, and called in the info for each of us in turn. All of us but one (problem w/background :( ) had paid the other owner and were ready to go in under 10 minutes!! That's better than some McDonald's Ive been to. Also, same dealer here is now a Class 3; my next purchase from them may be a supressor rather than another gun:)
Negatives are, no concealed carry permit means rather restrictive transport of legally owned weapons, and in this state you cannot CCW in an establishment that serves alcohol, regardless of the fact that you may not be drinking alcohol. I guess you can't always get what you want, but here in TN most times we get more than many other states think we the people "need" :p

Ryan In Maine
I think I stand corrected here is what I found ont he NRA-ILA site.

"It is unlawful for a person, other than a law enforcement officer or a private investigator, to possess a firearm in a posted liquor establishment. It is unlawful for any person to possess a firearm while under the influence in such an establishment."

But as it says in the above statement, it states "Posted" liquor establishment.
So I guess unless posted like any business can be it wouldn't be illegal. Id have to talk to an attorney though.

Thanks Ryan.
Not trying to spread disinformation just havent read this one in a while.

Also concealed carry laws arent the only reasons to rank a state as good or bad. It would require good all of the above mentioned laws. Perhaps a web site with a major cross referencing section.

So let me get this straight. Arizona and Nevada are good, and I have heard good things about Oregon, BUT I GOT STUCK IN THE MIDDLE? Not fair. How is it we're surrounded but we ended up the way we are?
