anybody ever had a firearm stolen?

Yeah,I had 2 handguns stolen from my pick-up a couple of days apart. The first to be taken was my favorite. It was a Ruger KP-90 w/Pachmyr grips in a Bianchi holster. They left 2 loaded extra magazines in a carrying pouch. The second was a Rossi snubbie stainless in .357,this time they left the holster. P.S. also gave #s to police. Was told by police that they would not be returned if found because "we don't return stolen guns".

my police said they would
the glock was in one of those pastic pancake holsters
so maybe it will be carried and found

my second hope is the theif trys to buy more 10mm ammo and gets discouraged by price and retuns it

Sad stuff...

Hate to hear that others have suffered from such thievery...

That's a been there and a done that.

When I lived in Lexington, North Carolina, which is a small and nice little town, my house was broken into a week after I moved in, while I was on a business trip. My next-door neighbors were, shall we say, suspect as their drug use was something of common knowledge (nice of everyone to let me know BEFORE I moved in right?)

They broke into my house and walked past my collection of 50 paintball guns (some worth thousands) hanging on the wall, past my tv and the XBox, past the computer and into my bedroom, into my nightstand, where they took my loaded Glock 23 and my Rossi .38 revolver. They did NOT take the 5 boxes of ammo laying underneath. Just the guns.

They were never found and I was dismayed to know that, now, the unsavory element in my neighborhood was now ARMED with MY GUNS. I figure they were pawned for drug money.

my dad has a saying he learned in highschool
"whenever there are 3 people in a locker room, one of them is a theif"
premise behind that is you cant really know who stole it
you may feel certain it was those neighbors but you dont know
and one more cheesy saying "guilt pleads the loudest"

i think youd need to know that the police had recoved the gun and refused its return before anyone would touch it including the nra

I think I would have asked them what happens if they recover a stolen car? Or bicycle? Or television?

Unfortunately this is gonna be one of those ones that you never really know the answer to - likely because the gun won't be recovered, or worse, because it is and these yahoos don't say anything to you about it.

I don't know what "system" the cops check for a stolen gun, but perhaps you could get other agencies to list it as stolen. Perhaps somebody besides your local yahoo shop will recover it and call you?

It hurts me even thinking about it. A series 70 Colt Gold Cup was stolen from me.

Was told by police that they would not be returned if found because "we don't return stolen guns".

This is different in each state, so I don't know what happens in Alabama. I had several guns stolen from me in Virginia and one was returned to me. I know of other people in other states that were told something similar to you. The biggest factor is if the gun was used in a crime before it is recovered. if so, it becomes state evidence in a trial. After the trial, if the guy is convicted, it remains in evidence in case there are any appeals. So, in this case, you might as well kiss it goodbye forever.

IF, however, the police recover the gun and it isn't associated with another crime, i cannot think any legal reason they would not return it to you. It is still your property. I would request they give you a response in writing explaining why they do not intend to return your property to you. Then, if need be, ask a lawyer to draft a letter on your behalf to the police department. That may change their attitude about returning your property. Without it in writing, a verbal conversation is almost meaningless.

Here, save for the car, they sell em. Just like the damn post office when they lose your stuff and then find it. Not saying with LE this is their policy, stuff just falls through the cracks sometimes.

holy wet primers batman
this might turn into my most replied to post ever
mine were taken from house when i wasnt there
broke in back window took weapons, ps2, and a new motorcycle tire
who steals a motorcycle tire?

Many of us, me included, need to be better about securing our guns when they are not in use. A read a study that showed nearly 33% of convicted felons stated they obtained their guns through theft. So, we are fueling the fire quite a bit. I do a better job now of locking things up, but I could do even better.

i could have done better
they were locked in house
glock was under couch cushion (they found it) 10/22 was behind couch they basically ransacked the room they entered had a hand full and left

Burglarized in 1986. There were 21 guns stolen. Three were recovered within a year. Another was found 17 years later. Still waiting on the rest.

Among the missing is my first gun (Rem 581 and no serial on this so no hope), the Luger my mother bought me as a 21st BD present, a couple of nice Smiths and a couple of nice Colts. A new condition Remington Model 30S and the BRNO really breaks my heart. I figure about $14,000 total in today's dollars.

The four I have gotten back are a Colt AR15, an English double rifle, a Colt 1911 and an H&K M91.

Had my Ruger single six flat gate and my wifes stainless single six in a plastic handgun box under my bosses desk one day as my car didn't lock. My boss went to lunch and one of the employees (his last name is Kolb) decided he wanted the stainless one cause it was shiney (his words).

The SD did not due much to help except tell me what line not to cross when trying to get it back.

Well I got it back about 6 months later from him (he sold it cause it was broke, didn't know how a single action worked)I tracked down the new owner and explained that he was in posession of a stolenn firearm and I would like it back. When he replied no, I said call the police and check the numbers. He came back and handed me the gun and punched the kid in the face)and it's in his record that "suspect returned stolen firearm". About a month later his dad beat the snot out of him and kicked him out. He moved out of state and returned for violating probation.
