Best Gun Store Purchase Surprise?

I found a NIB S&W 1076 10mm, with original box, 2 original mags, manual, all papers for $650. I though I did OK, had the S&W tooling marks beside the decocking lever too.

A local K-Mart was closing it's gun counter forever one year around Christmas. I picked up a brand new Remington 572 .22 rifle for $50. Now that's the best deal I ever got.

I was at a gun buy-back up in Gresham a couple months ago, some group called Ceasefire Oregon was running it, and I hit the ATM before I got there. Sure enough, they had ran out of the gift certificates they were handing out in exchange for guns, and people were walking away.

I intercepted one guy who had a pair of handguns, and after examining them, offered him $200 for both of them. We parted ways, the transaction only lasting a minute and a half. He had a decent Russian Makarov and a 1922 Frommer Stop .32 that was missing an extractor. I can't wait till next year's buy-back.

Had a nice deal this weekend. Spotted a used 3rd Generation Charter Arms 44spl, Blued, with a factor bobbed hammer, 90%, and with the box for $499. The older gentlemen helping me said that he and I both knew I could probably do better than that. He tracked down of the the guys who runs the store and asked what could be done for me.

I frequent this shop quite a bit so most of the staff know me on a firstname basis.

As the guy was looking over the tag on the gun, I just commented that I wasn't bringing anything in this time (I had emptied my safe of a few guns I didn't want anymore to get some extra spending money and finance a few purchases).

I seemed to mis hear me and asked what I had to trade in. I said I didn't and was just taking something out, not bringing anything in. He then took one more look at the tag and said $400 plus tax.

As the older gentleman who was first helping me was writing up the paper work he said that that was the price he was thinking it should be worth; I also stated that was the price I was going to try to haggle for.

It's nice every once and a while to not have to haggle for the price you want.

Over the years, I've found many great deals -
Ruger Single 6 with both cylinders - $150
Smith Nickel pre-model 10 - $110
Marlin 39A - $125 (with a hard case and a brick of shells)
Colt Trooper MKlll .22 - $160
Ruger .44 Carbine - $150

As far as new guns - back when Sport's Authority was clearing out it's handguns I bought a Colt 1991A1 in matte stainless for $475 and a Smith 60 .357 for $290.

Remington 700' s at Dicks

My local Dicks Sporting Goods has had a rack of Remington 700 SP (discontinued) for the past year or two. Box and gun tags say $499. They are constantly on sale, and I look at them every time I am in the store. Two years ago at Dick's I picked up a a 700 SP in 300 WSM for $300. And then I think there was a $25 rebate. Shot it a little, a real tack driver, but the deer don't require that kind of firepower, so I decided to trade it. Got a nearly new Grendel Overwatch match upper with Walter Lowthar 24 inch match barrel, which have gone way up in value lately.

So laterly, the other 700 SP's at Dicks were a 7mm, a 30.06 and a 270 win . Went in yesterday and only the 270 win was left. They had a $30 off any gun deal, and I ended up walking out of there with it for $250. Had interest in it at another site where I listed it at $400. As I was about to send photos to the local potential buyer, my neighbor (who owns the farm across the street and has gotten me into turkey and deerhunting, last month bowhunting, plows my driveway every major snow for free, etc ) came over, saw the gun, and said he would pay $400 for it. It had really nice wood, and the monte carlo stock fit him great!) I gave it to him for $400 only with the understanding that I would buy the dies and reload for him all the ammo he would ever need. He said great, I know you will be shooting it a bunch at the range too!

A few years back living in NW PA I was in a Gander Mountain and saw this in the used case just labeled as .38 S&W. I took a look and realized it was a nickel Mod 36 and had the $200 out of my wallet as soon as possible.

Recently I went to check out a listing for a used Beretta 92 for $400, which turned out to be an Italian-made original 92s with 2 hi-cap mags (hard to get in my state) again, the wallet opened very fast.

Not from a store but an individual. Picked up a nice Combat Commander in the box with 8 mags for $400 and a starter for an old Honda CRX.
Traded an old J.P. Sauer & Sohn .25 even up for a NIB Keltec P-11 at a gun show.
Just recently bought a Marlin 336 made in '72 that looked to be fired very little for $200 tax in from a pawn shop.

Another deal

Just got a 38 special RCBS tc carbide die set used at my local gun shop, used, for $10. This is a $60 die set new. And this one looks new. The only thing missing is the decapper pin, which is broken. I have some extras at home. The other similar carbide RCBS tc die sets were marked $28 used. $18 reduction for a decapping pin!

This Friday I stopped into a gun shop near my car dealership and picked up a vintage Charter Arms Undercover in .32 S&W, 90% condition, for $165. Plus I also found some Charter Arms wrap-around factory grips in the store for $25. Throw in a box of ammo and the whole deal ran me about $230.

2 cases of Win AA 28ga a couple of years ago for $6.99/box at Wal Mart. I don't usually buy ammo there.

The best surprise I got was when I was looking for a semi-auto .22 picked up a Ruger 10/22 and saw it was mislabeled as a Mossberg Plinkster. Took it up to the counter, guy didn't say anything, so I got a new 10/22 for at least $100 less than anywhere else. Not that huge a victory I know, but it certainly made my day. I've never really gotten any lucky finds, but I've never had the misfortune of buying a lemon either.

my father was in the local shop looking around. a lady came in and tried to sell a pistol to them. The guy at the counter said he could give more than 200 bucks for it without the owners approval. my dad peeked over her shoulder and offered 250 for it. She took the money and I got a 250 dollar new Colt Delta Elite 10 mm and a box of black talons. Thanks dad!

About 2 months ago i had purchased a DCI AK47. It was on a whim and came with ammo and mags and they asked 400 for it. I figured it was a okay deal. I threw a ad for it online and had a guy calling me wanting to trade and really wanting it. He offered me a Astra A100, a Sig P6 with three mags and original box, and a Chinese SKS.

Needless to say, i took the deal and sold the Astra for 250, the Sig for 300, and have a sks for fun at home.

DPMS .308 16" barrel with nightforce scope $400. AR rifles are not my cup of tea so I traded it to a friend for a like new Colt compact with holster and 3 Colt mags. He is an AR nut and was very happy about the deal. I am a Colt nut and was pleased with the outcome as well. The little Colt has turned out to be ultra reliable and it is now my allways gun.

My wifes grandmother remarried a few years ago. Her new husband trains horses now that he is retired. He doesn't hunt or shoot, but as all good southern boys do he had a small collection of guns. I was admiring a two he had on the wall (a 100 year old 16ga and a a old Glenfield .22) when he said if I ever come across a .22 revolver cheap to give him a call (he wanted it for training horses that the owners wanted to hunt on). I told him I could find him one for under $200 pretty quick. He pulled down the 16ga handed it to me, then fumbled around in a drawer and pulled out a mint little Tanfangilo(sp) .25 pocket gun and said I should take these as he'll never shoot them again.

I put a "want" ad out, picked him up a (finish) worn H&R .22 for $60 a week or two later and stop by to drop it off. He doesn't believe what I paid and does his best to pay me three times that for it before I just tell him bye, smile, and walk out the door. He probably still thinks I paid a lot more.

Turns out the 16ga is unsafe to shoot, but makes a nice wall hanger and the .25 I keep in the truck as a backup backup:D. Not a smokin deal since I have no real use for them, but I was happy with my $60 pocket shooter and wall hanger.

I bought a NIB Beretta .25acp model 21A, nickel plated, wood grips, 2 mags for $150 from a private party, and just about 2 months ago, got a used 10/22 with all sorts of goodies and a VQ FCG for $200 and for $100 more he threw in the M44 and case. Also picked up a pre-ban(94) Norinco SKS from a pawn shop for $150 this spring. Still trying to get my buddy to sell me his Norinco Sporter(he wants $300, I wanna give him $200) takes AK mags, that's the primary reason I want it.

best score(as it was the only gun I have ever sold) was a Walther Kampfpistole Z, anti tank pistol, looks just like a 27mm flare gun, paid $50 for it, came out an evidence bucket of crap my buddy got. didint plan on selling it, but I was doing reserch on what it really way and a bunch of collectors tracked me down, I did end up selling it to THE collector on this type, it will be in a new book coming out. It was one of a kind, all metal, no zink or alum......he had never seen another.

So I sold it........2K and it went to a better home

So after the gun store tried to rip her off you and your dad sealed the deal?

Remington Model 700 in .270 Win with scope for $300 that was in pristine condition. It shoots really tight groups. My 12 year old son just shot his first deer with it this year at 225 yards -- hit him right in the boiler room on the first shot. I love that deal!

Basically yeah. Her story was she pulled it on her boyfreind the night before when they were both drunk and she wanted it out of the house. So she might need to reconsider owning a gun in the first place. So i feel no shame.

This happened not at a gun store but in a private sale on another forum earlier this year. I got a Browning Hi Power MKIII for $450.00! As soon as I spoke to the guy on the phone he recognized my voice (I'm a Radio Announcer), turns out he was a fan and he threw into the deal some extra mag's, a couple of holsters, a threaded barrel (with a fake can), a few extra parts and a box of Speer Gold Dots.
