Best Hi-Cap Ruger 10/22 mags?

Just picked up a Ruger 10/22 to tinker with this winter and use as a general purpose plinker at the range and at camp. I'm looking to pick up some 25 or 30 round magazines for it, but I'm not sure what is good out there and what isn't. Ramline, Butler Creek, Hot lips, metal lips, plastic lips, etc.

So, what do the 10/22 officionados recommend for reliability and long life. I'd prefer to keep things under $40 a mag.

I have tried most you have listed and they are all good. The 10/22 aint
to picky about mags. The best 10/22 mag going is the Eagle brand,
in my experience they function without fail and are smooth and easy
to load.
 
Eagle? Your kidding? I have 3 eagles and they all suck; constant FTFs. Iv only seen about a hundred other posts about eagle mags sucking as well.

Steel lips are the ones that everyone seems to like.
 
I (and a friend) also have tried all hte mags listed and more for the 10/22 since '90. Have never tried the BC Steel Lips as I have been quite satisfied with the BC Hot Lips. Three of the ones I'm still using date back to '91. Of the others, Ramline, Eagle, that clear teardrop shaped crank one, and others. All but the BC mags had been crap for me. Usually, they ran fine for the first magful or 3 then reliability falls off of a cliff.
 
Mine is from Butler Creek Corp.

I don't know about Ram-Line's high capacity mags, but the autoloader they make sucks.

I've had a 50-round magazine (25 per side) from Butler Creek for years, and it works just fine.
 
I bought a hotlips mag and it was a piece of junk, failures to eject, failures to feed, a total mess. Sent it back to Butler Creek and they sent me another one. First mag was also a mess, failures to feed on almost every round. However, after that it ran flawlessly (go figure). I put about 150 rounds through it without a hiccup. The BC mag loader made all the difference in the world... Loading a 25 round mag in under a minute is great.

10/22 mags.

Butler Creek Metal Lips work great. The Hot Lips (plastic) is supposed to suck, but I've shot it in the dead of winter without a hitch.
 
ramline was broken when i got it. first round in the follower fell out. i bought it for a friend, bought his first gun as a 10/22 shortly before, and he said he'd take it up, i doubt he did :(
 
<--- has 5 BC Steel Lip mags, they work great.

Just picked up three of the Tactical Innovations polymer mags. They are about the same price as BC SL mags (around $28-30/mag) but they are adjustable. I have not had a chance to try them out but if they work, they seem to be the ticket. Same price, more functionality.

My only complaint about the TI mags is the cheezy lettering along the side. My BC SL mags are a cool smoke color. :p
 
The only hi-cap mags I've tried are the ones from Tactical Innovations and they work great. They are a bit more expensive, but they feature an adjustable feed angle and they can be disassembled for cleaning. I would highly recommend them.

Second here for the Tactical Solutions TI25.

They are pretty much indestructible and are easy to adjust so that you get reliable feeding. They are somewhat more expensive but they are worth it.
 
I have been using four new eagle 30 round magazines, they seem to feed just fine.

Only about 500 rounds through them I plan to shoot about 1100 rounds over the next week to test them out. Then I will be buying ten.
 
If you are having trouble with any of the hi-cap 10/22 magazines, try a Volquartson extractor. I've a pair of 10/22 one set up for blasting the other for accuracy, The blaster had trouble with a lot of the Hi-Caps while in the accurate gun they fed fine. Put the Volquartson extractor into the blaster and presto, no more problems!

I know what you are thinking, extractor has nothing to do with FTF, but a guy at our range gave me this suggestion and I figured $15 for the extractor was cheaper than buying more mags and trying to select ones that worked.

Might be worth a try for you too before buying a bunch of expensive mags.

in order
1. Factory Ruger 10-rd rotary
2. Eagle, black and smoke (not amber) 30-rd
3. Butler Creek Steel Lips 25-rd, with extractor located on magazine
4. Ram-Line 30-rd SINGLE COLUMN, in:
all clear plastic,
one clear, one black
all smoke,
all amber
(NOT: all black)
5. Butler Creek Hot Lips, no ejector (fragile though)
6. Bingham Steel Magazine, with some adjustment

*updated since this onfo came out in an old SAR: the Tactical Innovations metal and polymers are very highly regarded.

no-good 10/22 mags:
- all black ramline 30-rd single column
- amber Eagle 30-rd single column
- ALL Ramline double column mags (all capacities and colors)
- Sanford/Eaton 50-rd drums
- Mitchell 50-rd tear drop drums
- Eaton 25-rd stick mags
- Condor 30-rd mags

FWIW I use the butler creek see-through 'red lipped' magazines. I have shot about 600 rounds through both so far with no problems. They feed very well, and usually when I get a stovepipe or a double feed its becuase of my ammunition.
 
Ruger rotary mags are the most reliable for 22lr autos. I would just get a bunch of those and a speed feeder. If you are just plinking and clearing a jam is just a matter of cycling the bolt there are some great suggestions for high cap mags in the above posts.

I've used 3 types.

Ramline 50rd side by side - The absolute worst magazine I've ever had. I used it one day and returned it. I couldn't believe how bad it was.

Eagle international - Decent, but likes to FTF... a lot.

Butler Creek - Pretty much perfect. Metal lips over the plastic.
