I'm wanting a holster for my 5 1/2" Remington Army. What are y'all using?
For my uses, it need not be 'cowboy period", or leather. Just any good secure type, old style or new.
Does a holster for say, a 5 1/2" Ruger Blackhawk fit?

Holster for 1858 5 1/2

I like this one from cabela's 59.99, fits perfect and fast, I can do a pretty good double spin in and out of the holster. It's made by triple K that's the $20 belt and the $27 double holder for extra cylinders much better than the single cylinder holder for $17 and so far all the triple K stuff is the same color, so for about $100 you can get a nice little set-up. I noticed that the 5 1/2 holster is currently out of stock you have to watch for it every day because they get some in but they sell very fast in just a few days, here is the link.

Tinpan58,
On that Cabelas site, the Triple K Cheyenne holster options only include barrel length, not maker or type of revolver.
They seem to be made primarily for Colt SA and clones. But your Remington fits well.
So does that mean any holster for a SA Colt 5 1/2" would fit the Remington 1858 5 1/2"? That's the kind on info I need.
Because I like this one...

There's a user review for that holster that mentions how it fits an 1851. That's on page 2.

I wouldn't if I were you.

I recieved 4 holsters & 1 belt; Some of the nastiest products ever purchased. The 4.75 to 5.5 holsters swallowed my 1851 navy sheriffs with 5.5bbls.
None of the pieces even matched each other. The sewing was different per each piece. All 5 were different colors, not one similar to the next. 2 items felt like they were made of wood and had cracks in the outside surface as well as the insides being full of scratches.
...True to their word, they ARE CHEAP. Do yourself a
favor and spend the extra money to begin with...

Generally many single action holsters will fit the Remington. I have a cheap Cordura one that fits a Remington Target model like a glove, but I don't know who made it. Maybe it's a Ruger Blackhawk holster.

I think the only problem with the remy is the loading lever which makes for a tight fit when you first get a SA holster, but if you push the gun in and let it set for a day or two the leather will stretch and the remy will fit well, I have a couple of holsters I have done this with for my 8” remy and it works. I think the holster you are looking at will be fine.

When I received my Uberti 1851 London I decided to make my own holster following these instructions: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=19338

I do not have a background in leather work but was able to spend roughly $35.00 and make this holster and I still have enough leather left to make one more + a belt pouch for caps and RBs. I like it because it is defintely a custom fit.

I make my own holsters and need to warn you that if it's not lined it's going to wear the bluing off wherever it rubs against the holster.
I use either deer, elk or pig suede lining...whichever I can get for a decent price.

I have a full-size Remington, and I use a Triple-K rig from Cabelas:

It would be a fairly easy project to buy something like this, un-thread the bottom, cut it to length, and re-sew it.

As a matter of fact, I'm going to use the same belt rig for my new .22 SA revolver, but use one of these holsters..........

http://www.cabelas.com/product/Shoo..._l=SBC;cat104792580;cat104769180;cat104388480

...........and cut it down like that. Should work, as even though the revolver is a .22 it's built on a full-size frame and cylinder.
