I've never been a fan of using cowboy holster...I mean c'mon...I'm from Ohio.

Anybody suggest someone who'll make a modern belt holster for a Remington 1858 New Army (5 1/2 barrel)? Something similar to: this.

For those who ask, "Why?" will not receive a reply.

Hey that's cool! Trying to figure out how my 8" Remmy would fit IWB though! hehehe

Pocket Police would be nice. Hey, did y'all see they make a pancake holster for the Walker? Does it come with suspenders? I'd like to see that!

I saw that.
Hell..they even make an IWB holster for the Walker....

I'd like an olive drab kydex leg holster for my Remmie, we are allowed to carrie private side arms with our uniform in the Home Guard and I'd just love to make my lieutenant throw a fit because he can't stop me.

What's the purpose? Those "cowboy" rigs you dismiss are probably more practical for some purposes than anything that would be considered "modern". Unless it's concealed carry, it's hard to improve upon the traditional Slim Jim. Being from Ohio makes no difference whatsoever.

Well sir, the purpose for which you want a holster has A LOT of impact on the design of the holster. It's a little tough to help someone find what they want, if you don't know exactly 'what' they want. "Modern" is a little vague.

If you want a pancake style higher mount then it comes down to the holster providing the support needed to allow easy use and to not allow the gun to snag and twist and possibly damage the holster.

That Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake seems to fit all the requirements very nicely.

On the other hand I can't see using a higher waist mount holster of this sort with any barrel that is much longer than 5.5" unless it's in a cross draw setup. Hauling the longer frame AND a 7.5" barrel straight up with a same side draw would require more body flexibility than many of us enjoy.... :D But from a cross draw this wouldn't be an issue.

I know exactly what I want. :neener:
Thanks for everyone's input. The Sourdough Pancake looks very promising.

The Mernickle PS6 is very good but as BCRider noted, I don't know how well it would work for a barrel of that length.

Let us know how you like it, Pyro. Not that I am going to carry my 58, but I might like a modern LEATHER holster for it. :D Might not be a bad carry, though, with a .45ACP cylinder in it, but it don't top the reloading speed of my Ruger P90. I do carry the 58 afield occasionally, though, strapping on the western rig IS kinda a bit much for a hike in the woods. LOL

The "pancake" type holster referenced in the OP used to be known as a "pistol frog" about 150 years ago, using a different belt loop style. Johnny Reb was fond of them as that style holster helped conserve scarce leather resources. That's why Clint Eastwood chose to use one in 'Outlaw Josey Wales'.
