best ipsc limited major gun?

i currently shoot a beretta 92G Elite 2 in ipsc production. i would like to get into ipsc/uspsa limited major division. any suggestions on a good gun that is also a good value? what are the hot guns currently? popular calibers?

Most people I see shoot Para, STI, etc., doublestack .40s. Not sure if they shoot doublestack .38 Supers?

If I had to shoot Limited 10 I'd do it with a Beretta .40 or USP Expert. I know you said Limited but my choice in firearms dictates I stay in Limited 10.

Chances are they don't shoot 38 Supers, you must shoot at least .400 caliber guns to make Major.

In my opinion, the SVI/STI guns the best, but they're very expensive. It seems that the Para P16 Limited might be the best value/performance combo, but I don't know about the CZ IPSC Limited .40, looks like it would be a contender.

From my very limited experience, I'd say it really depends on the requirements of the shooter, what they like & need from their guns. I like the STI's for this purpose

My experience with Dawson Precision guns have been great. The two guns he buuilt for me have performed flawlessly. Only drawback is the price.

I have owned two STI factory guns which had numerous problems with reliabilty/function. HTH

Living in Kali, your choices appear limited as to STI/SVI guns, unless you're doing PPT.

Yep, a Dawson worked over ST/SV type gun in .40. You give up capacity in .45, .38 super can't make major. My first piece of best advice? We have this thing here called the Competition forum. We get bored over there, come sit a spell.

My second best advice? Heck, what do I know? I bought a Glock because I got tired of shooting the single stack in L10. I started shooting the Glock 17 in limited because I wanted to do something different than production. So that may be your first best move, load up the big mags and shoot the Bereeta in Limited for a while. It really is a different game not having to reload pretty much every other step as you do in the 10rd classes. Now I have 22 round mags, throwing away points left and right with the minor Pf. And having a blast.

as for competing with my beretta in limited (minor), i am giving that some thought. anyone know were to get really high cap mag for beretta 92's (i'm talking 20-30 rounders)?

The frame is an STI long/wide model. You could also use an SV frame. These are the two most widely used frames for IPSC Limited and Open class.

Para Ordnance frames are also popular, but not nearly as much as the STI or SV.

STI frames for their all steel guns (Trojan, Ranger, etc.) are cast, that's why they are cheaper.

STI frames for their double stack guns are machined from bar stock, and grips of course are injection molded.

If you want to be competitive in limited class, you are talking 1911 guns (whichever you can afford), or Glocks. Glock 35 works great, or now that they lowered the power factor Glock 22 is an option.

Limited 10 brings single stack 1911s in the arena. And Steyr M series in .40S&W would be a great alternative considering how cheap they are these days.

They use a shared Patent, so it would make sense that if one is cast so is the other.

I use Para P16, it shoots better than my friends STI (his keeps on jamming i. e. FTF's and FTE's) and it doesn't cost anywhere near ($900 total cost including 7 mags) as his STI.
and .... uh ..the frame doesn't warp either!
