I'm looking at buying another 9mm handgun and need some suggestions, here are my criteria:

- It will not be a carry piece, full size is good
- Price is not a limiting factor (although value is appreciated)
- Looking to EASILY obtain a threaded barrel for a suppressor, ie someone already makes a threaded barrel which can be purchased
- Accuracy for IPSC and 3 gunning a must

I don't yet own a Glock and I know there are a gazillion Glock accessories available. I guess I've had a dislike for striker fire which may be unfounded.

Your suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Based on your requirements, especially wanting a silencer, I would say Glock 17, all the way. Threaded barrels can be obtained at Lone Wolf Distributors (black stainless or stainless) for less than $150, FAR less than basically any other full size 9x19 handgun.

Consider the usp tactical,

longer barrel, threaded, with adjustable mact sights and adjustable match trigger.

next its description, of the H&K website:

USP TACTICAL and USP SD

Enhanced versions of the USP, the USP Tactical and USP SD are designed for users who need the features found on the HK Mark 23, but in a more compact pistol. Both pistols approaches the precision found on the Mark 23 by adding an extended threaded barrel with a rubber O-ring, adjustable trigger, and adjustable target-type sights.

The USP Tactical is the .45 ACP model and is constructed on the USP45 frame. The 9 mm USP SD is built on the USP 9 mm/40 caliber frame.

Features

•threaded O-ring barrel with polygonal bore profile
•high profile target sights
•match grade trigger
•adjustable trigger stop
•target sights with micrometer adjustment for windage and elevation
•one piece machined, nitro-carburized steel slide
•can be converted to any of nine trigger firing modes
•patented HK recoil reduction system

If you're talking about USPSA and not IPSC, GLOCK rules Production and has made significant inroads into Limited. In Production, a G34 is the state of the art.

I started USPSA with an HK USP...I love the gun...but for competition it just doesn't bear up to the GLOCK. And? That's before a trigger job and some accessorizing. Keep it stock and you can shoot IDPA too!

Dan

Ps--A guy here shot a USP Tactical in .45. He was in "D" class for over a year, then went to a CZ Shadow and made it to "C". He's now "B" class, and shooting a G34.

What about the SIG 226 with the factory threaded barrel and taller sights for suppressor use?

Smith & Wesson M&P Pro. Storm Lake makes a threaded barrel for $190, 1:16 broach cut, match.

Go to YouTube and search Dan Burwell, one of the most accomplished M&P gunsmiths around. (He has a sight too listing custom work) The other page to look at for M&P options is Bowie Tactical. He's done custom work on Larry Vickers' M&P of "Tactical Impact" fame.

Side benefit is a rebate program through 5-31, $50 or two extra mags. It took two months but I got mine in the mail today. Definitely come in handy if you're looking to shoot competition.

Sounds like the HK Tactical 9mm is your best bet, but just a tad pricier than some others. In the long run, the money might be well spent: it is designed for suppressor use, has high adj. sites, already fitted and threaded barrel, and has an exposed hammer.
