I have a soft spot for Berettas and would like to start shooting one in IDPA SSP and IPSC production classes. In your opinion which one of the ELITE/VERTEC models is best suited. Also can anyone explain the differences between the ELITE/ELITE IA/ ELITE II/ and Vertec pistols. Thanx in advance for all of the knowledge I know I will be getting. Craig

PS anyone know of any good dealers out there who will aggressively seek these pistols.

The Elite I series was developed by Ernest Langdon when he worked for Beretta USA.The Elite II series was the next evolution for the Elite.Better grip, target crowned barrel, heavier skeletonized hammer. This model out of the box is your best bet for SSP or production class. The Vertec or Elite AI will be fine choices too but they are quite tactical.:D
The Vertec and Elite AI have the straight backstrap for those who like the 1911 feeling grip or have smaller hands.
Any one of them is great choice.Good luck and have fun shooting it.

berettaman has pretty much nailed the differences...

for competition i think you're looking at either the elite II or 1a...depending on which backstrap feels better to your hand. the 1a comes with the "short trigger" as standard and it makes the trigger pull a bit "harder "...the solution is dropping in a regular trigger

You really can't go wrong w/ any of the Elites...actually any of the Berettas too :) I guess I'm too much of a traditionalist...I don't care too much for the Vertec.
