I heard you can leave it cocked when in storage to lighten up the trigger a bit. But other than that, you gotta deal with it. I leave mine cocked, but really don't expect much difference.
Yeah, it's a lot of plastic. But very light! It's a blast to shoot. Most people that shoot it decide they really like it.
