Well at one time a I had a nice little collection of firearms, one of them being a Colt Match Target HBAR that I used for both plinking and CMP 100yrd matches. but thanks to my ex-wife I'm now looking for a new AR15 type rifle.
Anyway I've been looking into the Lewis Machine And Tool Defender 2000 and I would like to know what is the best going price for one now? The best I've seen is $1089 which has made me also start looking at buying a LMT Lower and then later buying the upper, is that a good idea or would it just be better to save the money and by the whole rifle at once?

Thank you all for your time.

Keep your eye out and you might be able to get one just under $1000. If you want one soon you should just get the one you found. If you can wait you might save a $50...it's up to you.

I have two LMT's. I got one from each of these places in the last 6 months, and they were the best deals I could find. Kiesler had a sale going, but I think it's over.

http://www.kiesler.com/

http://www.ar15sales.com/

The one I got from Kiesler, had the detachable carry handle and ambi safety, and was $930 plus $12 shipping.

The one from AR15sales, had the LMT BUIS, and was $995 delivered. I believe that is still his price.

Either one was actually a lot cheaper than the internet wisdom of buying an upper and lower separately, especially when you add in the rear sight/carry handle.

It may save you the tax, but $1089 for a complete LMT is a good price. Broken down and bought separately:
$485 LMT upper
$330 LMT lower
$130 LMT BCG
$120 LMT rear BUIS
$40 LMT handguards
$20 charging handle
$1125 TOTAL

Now if your'e just planning on immediately adding a rail (I wouldn't), installing a Gas Buster charging handle (wouldn't bother with that for unsuppressed), changing out the stock, etc. then perhaps buying in parts will save you.

rob_s forgot to mention that if you want the very good SOPMOD stock, it only costs $15 more (retail price list: $1250.00/w vs $1235.55/wo) when purchased as a complete rifle. Just purchasing the lower the difference between getting the standard Gen 2 collapsing stock and the SOPMOD is $107(again retail price list)!!!;)

That SOPMOD is really a great stock to have for your rifle. Very tight fitting and tremendous cheek weld comfort!!!:D:D:D

Thank you all for the help. I just got an email back from AR15Sales.com and they said they had the LMT Lower with the GEN 2 Stock ready to ship for $330 so after drill this weekend I plan to head to over to my FFL and have him order one for me.

LMT Lower $330 AR15Sales.com about $350 after TAX from my FFL.
LMT 16" Upper with handguards and also charging handle $485 RainierArms.com
LMT Bolt Carrier Assembly $129 RainierArms.com
Total: $964

Thank you all again for the help.

Just so you know (in case you don't), the "gen 2" stock is *not* the SOPMOD stock. It is basically a normal carbine stock. I guess there are some minor differences between it and the historical milspec, but if there are, they aren't obvious.

The SOPMOD, as others mentioned, has far less rattle and a much nicer feeling cheekweld.

Also, in addition to what you have listed there, you will need to get some sort of rear sight to have a functioning rifle.

Yep, you're generating a false economy.

You don't have handguards, a rear sight, or a charging handle.

He does state above that Rainier is including handguards and CH in the 485 price of the upper. If true, that is a good deal. Normally its 485 without those items.

Ah, gotcha, missed that part. That's actually getting more common, especially with the BCM uppers selling for $450.

LMT's MAP irks me, like it does from any manufacturer, but there's not much to be done about it other than freebies like that.

That price for the lower is the 'retail' price from LMT...

$330.00 Defender lower, Collapsing Stock and Standard Trigger
$437.00 Defender lower, SOPMOD Stock and Standard Trigger

Like I stated earlier, I would strongly suggest getting the SOPMOD stock and only pay $107 more. If you don't like it, you can sell it for $150 pretty easy (they retail for $199.00 vs $58.68 for the Gen 2) and buy a Gen 2 stock and make out even better!! However, I almost guarantee that you will really be glad you went the extra and got the SOPMOD!!!;) It is that good!!!!!!!!:D

I went that same route when I put my LMT together last summer. Buying the parts seperately was easier on my wallet at the time.

The place that I bought mine (www.Rainierarms.com) was throwing in a free set of LMT handguards and a LMT charging handle with the purchase of any LMT upper. Looking at their website, it would appear that they are no longer doing that...
