For a good reliable, basic 1991 at a reasonable price I'll join the chorus for the Rock Island. I recommend either the full size Tactical or Tactical II, primarily for the better sights. Great in either 45 or 9mm.
I've seen a review or two on those, and the going opinion seems to be "steer clear." Feed and RTB failures seem to be the rule rather than the exception.
Is $500-$600 reasonable?
Even if he has to give it to himself the way I did.Every young man should get a 1911 for his 21st BD, right?
I had one which was my carry M1911 until I had to sell it a couple of years ago.I'm late to the party on this thread but I also have a Norinco 1911A1 and swear by it. She goes bang with each trigger pull and the bullet goes where I aim it.
I'd second that. I've seen a number of taurus 1911's that have been fine shooters. Perhaps not as fit and fiinished as others are, perhaps not as tight. but to gain entry into the platform. not a bad choice at all.Taurus haters will pop out from the woodwork on this, but I recommend the PT1911. For the features you get, no other 1911 in that price range can touch it.
