Best regular load 9mm ammo for Personal/Home Defense

I carried this when I carried for a living. Can't tell you how it works other then it functioned in my G-17C just fine.
It is my understanding it has been used by the cops for years.

I would go for a 115 gr Gold Dot or similar. I would think a lighter bullet would be advantageous in the HD arena.
But maybe not.
I keep all my 9mms stoked with 124 gr standard pressure Gold Dots.

I like 124gr Remington Golden Sabres. They are easy to get and always feed, which is really the most important thing. Any modern hollowpoints from a reputable maker that feeds in your gun will probably be just fine. A lot of people agonize over ammo choice, but if you place 'em where you need to and shoot until the threat stops you'll be in good shape.

I refuse to pay rifle prices for handgun ammo & I especially refuse to buy the way overpriced 20 round boxes. Especially since you should run a box of carry ammo through every month. Yeah, I know, most people only shoot the cheapest they can buy or reload but if you're going to carry it, you need to stay current with it regularly. I used to carry a S&W 642 but stopped when I realized I wasn't shooting my carry load enough to be safe, much less proficient, with it. It was too painful. I put a box of the RA9TA through my Glock and actually enjoy it more than the cheap Federal I have.

I used to like the old Remington 115gr HP. It'd expand on a jackrabbit yet hold together hitting gravel. This has/(had?) about the best feed profile ever for a hollow point.
115gr Silvertips always seemed to expand well but wouldn't hold together as well as the Remington.

I've had great luck with the 147 gr. Remington Bonded Golden Saber, 124 gr. +P Remington Bonded Golden Saber,124 gr. Federal HST, 124 gr. Speer Gold Dot and 115 gr. +P Corbons. My personal favorite of the lot, however is the HST. All the others fed fired and ejected, but I found the performance with the HST to strike the best balance of accuracy, velocity, expansion, reliability, and mild recoil in my Springfield EMP. I've just now started to field different JHP rounds through my Sig Sauer P226 after 400 rounds of FMJ, but thus far it has done quite well with the 147 gr. Bonded Golden Sabers and the 124 gr. +P Bonded Golden Sabers.

Corbon 115gr +P
I also use Corbon 100gr +P Powerball for problem guns that don't like to feed JHPs.

I've got my HD pistol loaded with Corbon 115 +P's. I figure light-for-caliber is preferable from the over-penetration perspective - I live in the city, so my house is close to many others. In the same vein, I have some 135gr Corbons for my 10mm, but that's not the primary weapon, since my wife can't reliably overcome the recoil spring to operate the slide.
I personally like the 147 grain HST best, in either standard pressure or +P. Out of a full-size pistol, the standard pressure penetrates slightly better and the +P gets a hair more expansion, but in either flavor it and the current generation Ranger-T are the widest expanding bullets out there and still penetrate an acceptable distance reliably.
Also it's pretty much the ideal load for a shorter barreled pistol.

If I still carried a 9mm (And my wife may start soon,) I would probably carry 147 gr HST, standard pressure.

What's the deal about non +P? They are designed for it easy..
When you might actually need to drop the hammer is about 1/1000000 or essentially never.
People generally accept that in motor racing, that motor should be just shy of fragged/exploded for any given race and hence be replaced and or rebuilt and it's really just a game, not life or death.
It's not like they're poison pills or anything.

From what I have experienced, standard pressure has plenty of penetration. I don't want to beat up my gun with hotter loads if it isn't necessary.

I like the Rem golden sabre in any caliber ! I have used them in .357 mag , .45 acp and 9 mm ! they are all reasonable recoil , low flash and great bullet design ! They work ! I would prefer 147 grain in most guns except the really small subcompacts then I would go to 124 grain ! Kevin

As a combo practice, carry load, I would go with the 100 round boxes of REMINGTON 115 jhp. This stuff is so inexpensive that I can use it as a practice ammo, plus it is among the most likely to feed rounds due to the bullet design.
Those are the choices I actually use for 9m.m. in my HD/CCW pistols.

In all honesty as long as it feeds well in your handgun anything from a respected manufactor is fine. Personally I only use Hornady Critical Defense in my S&W M&P9 and Diamondback DB380, trust it with my life

I don't think there is ANY current-production 9mm hollow-point that is not an effective home defense load.
Whatever you settle on, run a couple boxes through your gun to make sure the gun likes it as much as you do.
