Best (reliable) .22LR handgun?

I like the TX22, both of mine are very reliable and accurate. I have not shot the G44, but admit to being leery from bad press and the negatives might be just that, bad information. I would wait awhile on the G44. I will throw in my SR22 as a good choice, Get the longer barreled model. A lot of good advice here. As has been mentioned, if a .22 is having problems I always look at the ammunition firstView attachment 897624 View attachment 897625 View attachment 897626
You must not have read all the post in this topic. On page two, post #41 I put a link to the topic, What will the Glock 44 eat, that I made. You should give it a read.
I’ve been thinking about getting one of the Taurus TX 22’s but want to make sure that I don’t get one of the ones that had bad barrels.

for a 22 handgun you cannot go wrong with any ruger. as others have well explained, the sr22 is a fine goldilocks handgun, i.e. generally suitable and reliable for many roles. i’ve put many 1000s of rounds through mine and it is my go-to range, plinking, travel and defensive piece. that said, if i wanted to buy a youngster a keepsake 22 handgun it would be a ruger bearcat. a single action revolver is a timeless learning/teaching tool and the bearcat is a mechanical jewel.

The Lady brought a Ruger SR22 as it fits her small hands.

I recently brought a Ruger Wrangler because I felt the need of a revolver to shoot whatever brand of ammunition the SR22 doesn’t like (have not found any yet) and its mechanical simplicity. It’s Olive Drab Cerakote color is growing on me.

The SR22 is a really fun gun to shoot. My only real complaint is having to keep loading the magazines. I brought two more magazines but the way that SR22 gobbles up ammunition I will still be giving my thumb a workout loading them.

I would like to add a larger 22 pistol to compliment my full size centerfire ones. I am not a Glock fan but I am willing to be convinced. The Taurus has most of my interest at the moment and I am watching user’s comments.

I believe you are blaming a problem on the gun that is caused by the hand holding it. Whatever. It's certainly capable of burning up a lot of ammo in the right shooter's hand. Mine burns up more in my gg daughter's hand than than in mine. Maybe it's because she's young and capable of moving her finger faster than grandpa or maybe it's because grandpa is paying for the ammo and shoots slower so she can shoot more before we run out. The ONLY stoppage my SR22 has ever had is with dud rounds.

She also likes to shoot my single six and I recently bought a bird's head gripped Heritage that she likes. These two guns are considerably more wallet friendly than the SR22 in her hands when it comes to ammo. The HRR is a very good size for kid's or any one with smaller hands. I know it's not a single six. If Ruger would offer the SS with a bird's head grip that's what I would have but they don't.

While I haven't put as many rounds through my Glock 44 as others, so far mine as ate everything I've fed it. The Glock definitely can't compete with my Ruger Mk II as far as accuracy. I wouldn't mind shooting the Taurus TX22. But if the trigger on the TX is anything like the Taurus 24/7 Pro I had then no thanks. I never could get used to the extremely long trigger pull on the 24/7.

BSA1, take a look at the Browning Buck Mark series (on the Browning site) with the Picatinny rail. These pistols are extremely accurate and you won't find a better trigger anywhere.

Hmm. I'm pretty sure the best .22LR handgun currently made right now is either the S&W Model 41 or the Freedom Arms Model 97. The OP did say his daughter could choose for herself...

Another vote for Browning Buckmark. They usually have the best trigger from the factory with no further modification needed. Clean every 300 rounds or so, and you will never have ammo issues.

And mark me down as another one in favor of the Browning Buckmark. Mine always puts a smile on my face when I start dumping shots through a half-dollar-sized hole out where Bubba and his BFR are having a hard time finding paper. Simply a pleasure to shoot.

I have one. I brought it a long time ago as a gift for my son but with his Army career he has yet to reclaim it. I do need to get more magazines for it. For some reason I have never had a lot of interest in 22’s.
