The 915 is a gem. I understand they were only made for two years or so.

The economy models didn't stay in production very long...likely a failed business plan that got a re-think

    The re-think was called "Sigma".

The economy 915 was a stopgap until they could introduce this polymer/striker fired pistol.

An side note is that they made a well thought out design feature that unfortunately didn't take into consideration consumer's ability to deceive themselves...the SW380. I pistol selling for $200-250 that was simple and pretty foolproof to operate aimed at a very specific market. Unfortunately, folks, who would likely only fire maybe a magazine or two, were offended by an expected service life of only 2500 rounds

The best old S&W auto, accuracy-wise would be a Model 52 in .38 Special.

Next a Model 39-2 or a 59, for those that complain about the DA trigger, these will solve that problem. They are a long pull, but a very good one.

Lots of good opinions here. I have a 410, 4046, 4586, 69xx(can't remember exactly), 39-2, 1086, and 61-2. For pure cool factor I really like the little escort. It's so fun to shoot. Speaking of the 10xx series and their prices. But I lucked into the 1086 for $500 about 8 or so years ago. If I remember right the 1086 is the 2nd least produced out of the series. I think only about 16k were produced. But on the subject of the 10mm, I was able to handle the new 10 with the 4 inch barrel. That gun just got moved to the short list. And im sure the aftermarket will soon explode for it.

The Model 39 may not be the best S&W made, but to me it's the nicest looking & most comfortable semi-auto made by S&W. Never got one because (I think) it had an aluminum frame and I was a 45 ACP guy back then (still am although not quite as much).
