I have a few 9mm,s glock 19,kahr pm9.After much research I wanted a smith and wesson 3913 in 9mm,I finally found one and purchased it.Last week it finally arrived, what a wonderful pistol to shoot and handle, needless to say I am impressed with the quality also.So much so I bought a Smith and wesson model 5906(9mm) today over at the S&W forum;)

Congrats.

I've always felt the 3913 was pretty much quintessential example of state-of-the-art for a compact, metal-framed, single column magazine 9mm pistol, especially considering when it was first produced.

BTW, I found the CS9 to be another outstanding example of an even smaller metal-framed 9mm pistol.

It's sad that market forces created the situation where the metal-framed guns weren't able to compete with the less-expensive-to-produce plastic guns.

My 3913 & CS9 have always delivered excellent functioning and accuracy.

One would be hard pressed to find better 9x19 carry pistol.

I used to have a 3914, great pistol, I can't figure out how I let it get away from me. I still have a CS9, also a great pistol with a slightly smaller size.

I wanted to add to this thread, today found a NIB 3914 tsw that I purchased.Very nice to say the least. All I have to do now is find a great condition S&W CS9 and my collection will be complete:D

My daily ccw is a S&W 3914, it goes with me almost everywhere I go. Great gun, very accurate and reliable. They are spectacular guns for IWB carry because they are so thin!

My only gripe with the 3914 was the thinness of the grip, so I replaced the original grip with a Hogue one and it made a huge difference. It doesn't really effect the overall thinness of the gun and it feels more comfortable to grip and shoot now.

Strange, I actually prefer the OEM grip to the Hogue grip..

Oh, the thin profile and flat backstrap of the stock grip is a good one, to be sure.

It's just that the Hogue grips make for a better grip in wet & rainy conditions, or just when my hand has been wet, when I've had to draw & present. The Hogue helps prevent slickness from causing slippage and shifting under recoil or firm grasping at times, and they also help dampen the already controllable felt recoil to really manageable levels, especially when I'm carrying/using +P+ or +P issue loads.

They will, however, sometimes create friction with cover garments and catch on clothing.

TANSTAAFL.

What frankc said. That's the only downside to the 3rd gen smiths: figuring which holsters will and won't work via long distance.

Thanks for the tip!

I have a 3913 and a 908... +100 on this being possibly the best 9mm concealed-carry platform ever produced.

IMO, they, (and any single-stack 3rd gen) really benefit from Hogue grips, (although I prefer the factory grips on my doublestack 3rd gens).

I find that a Crossbreed Supertuck is the best way to carry these gems, at least for me.

So long as we are at it, what mag pouch do you all use? I'd love to find a concealable open top double mag pouch that fits the 3913 series 8-rounders like a glove...

Just ordered one of those safariland 27-83-61s for a backup, thanks!

I just carry one spare mag (curved plate) in my back left pocket. A flat-plate mag lives in the pistol... But I have about seven or eight other mags for going to the range.

My 3913 EDC

I carry mine in either a Alessi Talon II or a Kramer IWB holster. It also feeds the 147 gr. Federal HST with no problems so that is what I carry in it.

Can't quibble with this except to say that I prefer the Model 6906 to the 3913. Yes, it's a mite thicker and a little heavier (26.5 vs 25 ounces) but I've got fairly big hands and I like having the extra ammo on board.
