I see Maxfire and HKS speedloaders have different mechanisms for releasing the ammo into the gun.

What brand do you like best and why?

I used HKS for ages, but I found some of the Safariland Comp I's and I will NEVER go back to the HKS's. They don't get hung up on Hogue grips and getting them to release is a matter of pressing. It's a natural movement, unlike having to hold the cylinder while twisting the HKS. You just press the side till it clicks, then shut the cylinder and let the speedloader fall away.

I too have recently bought Safariland Comp Speedloaders and won't go back to HKS. I bought a few Comp II Speedloaders for my L frame and was happy to find they were so much easier to use, not that the HKS are hard to use. I think I will be replacing all my Speedloaders in the near future.

Don't forget another option, Bianchi Speed Strips if you are carrying a 38/357.

Safariland Comp II. Used them for years for duty. Also used them for instructional purposes. The latter were used and abused and are still serviceable today.

They are actually made by an outside contractor for Safariland, and a very clever fellow he is, too. Met him through a mutual acquaintance and got to see his shop were the parts were cranked out. Once a week or so a nice lady came in and assembled a bunch.

Never cared for the HKS as they jiggled all over the place and were 100% gravity dependent. The Comp IIs offer much better control and a positive impulse for starters. No comparison.

the only speed loaders i've ever used is safariland..... i like the way you just push em into the cylinder and they release the ammo.... no twisting or turning of knobs..... to get the ammo into the speed loadertook some learning tho..... i just put the cases in and hold it knob down and twist the knob until they lock in place..... it's lots easier to get em out than in!

Nobody talked about Maxfires - so I surfed and find the
M6K is made for the 686 P 7 shooter I may have to try
a couple of them. Alas they don't make a model for
the .45 Auto RIm S&W = HKS 25M so, I carry the
best speedloader .45 ACP in Full Moon clips. for Go - the
HKS will be in belt holders for show but the first sylinder
full will be .45 AR they don't hang up on the LH side of
the grip.

The SL Comp loaders beat the HKS in every way. I've got a box of old HKS loaders that get used very seldom. The SL Comps hold the cartridges tighter so they load faster, and they dump with just a push - much, much faster than the HKS with a small amount of practice.
