For years I have used HKS speedloaders with my wheel guns, but am allways looking for something better. On page 52 of the March '03 Blue Press I see Maxfire Speedloaders listed. If anyone has any experience with these I'd appreciate your comments, pro & con. Thanks.

I haven't used 'em yet, but what scares me is how you yank 'em off sideways. I'm not sure I like how that stresses the crane.

I got a couple of them, keep them with my bedside gun. The rounds release easily so stress on the crane isn't a problem. The problem with them is that the rounds do release so easily. If you drop them or try to carry them in your pocket they are likely to fall out.

My wife has two for her 7-shot tracker, they're different that for sure. They seem to hold the rounds pretty well, and the prices is certainly good.

I wouldn't worry about stressing the crane, once you get the proper technique down it's not too hard.

I asked about these on another board, and the replies I got weren't very positive.

Someone said the spill rounds too easily.

I might get a couple for range use, or for starting loads in IDPA matches, but I think I'll rely on HKS or Safariland speedloaders for serious work.

Any similar experience with these ones?

Thanks to all for posting back. Next time I place an order I think I'll try a pair (at $9.95 a pair it won't break the budget).

FWIW,

I really prefer Safariland Comp II's- the finger grooves help me line the speedloader up correctly with the cylinder and this speeds up reloading quite a bit. I also like the release better.

Only problem I have with Comp II's is that Safariland doesn't make them for the N frames or 7/8 shot models.

i also prefer the safariland comp II as a good balance of speed, security and ease of use.

like poohgyrr, i'm disapointed at the availability for different models. that's why i'm using the HKS for my smith 696 (5-shot .44)
