Do some research and develop some specific questions. Provide us with your parameters/wants at the beginning of the thread. Otherwise a lot of folks will be throwing around opinions that have nothing to do with answering your questions. You will find that many of the posters on this site take a tremendous amount of their time to help point you in the right direction. Do your part and make sure they aren't wasting your time or theirs. I'm not trying to be critical, it just seems like the thread was started prematurely.

You'd have to call DPMS to find out if it's 5.56 or .223. You CAN shoot .223 from a 5.56 rifle, but not the other way around due to cartridge pressure. So I'd call them to be sure what it's chambered for.

Not if you're using it for hunting. All of the good hunting rounds are .223. 5.56 is more military rounds. Whether you're hunting, target shooting, or plinking, you can find what you need in .223, so there's no big loss at all.

Forgot to add, .223 is generally more accurate than 5.56 as well.
