As Judged by reliability, fun to shoot, bang for the buck? (No pun intended.)

I have a Ruger P95DC, but just spent money on a 357. I'm wondering of I can sell my mint P95, and go to a value 9mm auto.

Pick up one of those trade-in Sig P226 or P228 from www.cdnninvestments.com

The $360 price is more than new Rugers cost, but the Sigs are first class firearms in terms of reliability and accuracy. I remember a couple months ago they had some with slightly blemished slides for just $269.

I may do that. I'll have to see how she shots, but I like the feel, and finish. I don't stay on top of the new guns. So I thought I would throw the question out, see what I got back. The Ruger costs less than the Sig.

I have a p-95 also. I personally think it is one of the best values in a 9mm out there. Unless you are specifically looking for something to carry concealed. I Bought mine over a year ago NIB for $309.00. I was in a gun store the other day and they had a used one for $299.00. I would say keep it. I allways have fun shooting my P95 it shoots anything with a quality magazine. I have one cheap high cap mag that I use for practice, it will occasionally jam but all the factory mags and Mec Gars feed anything I put in them as fast as I can pull the trigger.

Woody, I was one of your interested buyers. I'm seriously interested in getting a Ruger KP/P95, but I haven't had the opportunity to shoot one yet. Is there a reason you don't like yours?

I have a 2 .357 revolvers, 2 .38 revolvers, 1 .22 SA revolver, 2 9x18/1 .380 Makarovs, and 1 semi-auto .22 pistol, and still want a 9x19. I didn't know you were a one caliber man. ;)

I wanted to know if you didn't like the Ruger for some reason. I was going to get your opinion on it. Thought your experience with it would help the rest of us.

Jim - I apoligize. Didn't mean to come off like a dick.

Anyway. Like I say. I never shot the P95. I like the feel, and finish. I was doing some wishful thinking that maybe I could get top dollar for my P95 - and look for a sweet deal on a used 9mm at some point. But I may just keep th P95.

I do like Rugers.

In a private sale, you'd might get as high as within $50 of what you paid for it (provided you paid a good price for it to start with). It gets worse from there. Doesn't make a bit of difference if you've never fired it, it's still used. Trading at a shop will get you hosed. Expect sob stories about how these never move and how they've got dozens in the back, but they'd be willing to give you $150-175 credit on anything they have in the shop.

I think you're better off keeping it unless the gun just doesn't fit you. And yes, they are just about the best value in 9mm to be had today. I used to want one of these, but I have so many 9s right now that I just don't want another unless it's an HK P2000.

Woody, no offense taken. It's easy to mistake my meaning if I'm not explicit, in my experience.

You've never fired it?!?

Perhaps you'd like to send it to me for safekeeping until such time that you have a need for it again . . .

SPaw,

Funny you should say that. At the hole in the wall were I got my Security Six, I asked them to appraise my P95. They said, "not interested...they don't move". But the used ones they had were marked around $300. Go figure.

Like others have said, the P-95 is a good 9mm for the money. If you had asked the same question but didn't say you already had a P-95, I think the P-95 would have got many votes anyway.

If you are just bored with the P-95 and want a slightly better gun and don't mind if it is used, there are some nice ones for about the same price as a new P-95. Used Sigs are great guns and the CDNN price is the best I have seen. Used S&Ws esp the 5906 can be had for a song and the are nice guns. New Springfield Armory XD-9s don't go for much more than a new Ruger P-95 but I think they are much better guns. The Rugers are tops in reliabilty but some of the others may have advantages that the Rugers don't. Going with a higher dollar gun but buying it used may get you more bang for the buck. I have bought some nice used guns that were every bit as good as new but since they were slightly used, I got some of them for about half what i would have paid if new. I got a nice Beretta 92fs with night sights for $350. I got a S&W 3913 for $275. I got a used SIG 220 for about $500 IIRC and it has night sights, W. german made, that special black finish and it looked NIB.

I think I will keep the P95. The more I research, the more I think the P95 is one of the best bang for buck 9mm autos.

I also have an Argentine 1911 45 acp. Cosmetically it is about 70%, but that is the gun I trust my life with. Once I get my permit renewal, I'll pick up the Ruger Security Six 357, which is like 90 to 95%.
