Best value in 9mm?

Best value - SIG P6 if you can still find one under $350. Otherwise, if I was buying from scratch on a budget right now, I'd be looking mighty hard at the Bersa's.

Ruger P95. The best combination of durability, utility, reliability and price I've found.

Southern Ohio Gun is currrently selling Walther P99s for $399 with two magazines. That's a tough deal to beat under any circumstance, IMO.

Aw that's not fair!!! I figured we were talking about brand new guns so that there is a fair comparison. Now that I know we're also taking used into account, the S&W 3rd gens run away with the gold metal for used guns.

For new, I'm still going with the SR9. That's a serious lot of gun for their price range.

If its a gun you will use a lot, I say buy the gun you REALLY WANT, rather for settling something that just seems like a "good value."

Only YOU know what you really want.

I've had various 9mm's.
For me the Glock is the point I keep returning to.

There's a lot of other neat 9mm stuff out there, but none like the Glock that I would actually use on a regular basis.

I'm partial to the CZ 75B but for the most "bang for the buck" it would be awful hard to beat any of the all steel rugers, last forever and go bang everytime.

...it would be awful hard to beat any of the all steel rugers...
To my knowledge, the only all steel 9mms that Ruger has ever made were some SP101s and some Blackhawks with convertible cylinders.

All of the semi-auto Ruger centerfires employ either polymer or aluminum frames. ;)

I think my HK P7, used, is the best pistol i've purchased vs dollars spent. Next would be my Taurus PT-92.

Glock 17, you can get a new one for $500 ish. Not the least expensive, but IMHO you would have a hard time getting more value for your money.

This is way to subjective. I would say the Glock series of guns and a used Sig is a good value. I also recommend the XD series of guns as well as the Smith and Wesson 3rd generation steel guns. There is also the Smith and Wesson M+P series as well.

I recommend Glocks, especially the 17. But the Glock 19 and 26 are also good values. The size is subjective and really depends on what you intend to use the gun for.

Current German Police trade in HK P7's. None better right now. Actually, this is one of the best semi-autos period.

The original question contains a few contradictions. First of all, the question is pertaining to a DEFENSE weapon. A defense weapon would, by definition, be one that is 100% reliable, or darn close to it.

I don't believe RELIABLE and CHEAP (or INEXPENSIVE) go hand-in-hand.

I don't think any handgun that is CHEAP would also be 100% RELIABLE, therefore, I must recommend an SKS.
