Best value in 9mm?

it would be awful hard to beat any of the all steel rugers

To my knowledge, the only all steel 9mms that Ruger has ever made were some SP101s and some Blackhawks with convertible cylinders.

All of the semi-auto Ruger centerfires employ either polymer or aluminum frames.

Details..Details...Details.... What was I thinking?

Yeah, I agree that it's nitpicking. On the other hand I wouldn't want anyone buying one and being disappointed later.

Not that they SHOULD be disappointed. I've never of anyone breaking the frame on one of the aluminum framed Ruger semi-autos. They will get pretty loose with a lot of wear, but the frames just don't seem to ever break.

I see sig P6's selling for enough now that I think there are better values.

I've bought a couple used glocks for $400.

I've seen NIB Steyr M9A1s for $399

3rd gen smiths are also a very good buy.

Ruger SR9.

I paid $429 for mine, but have seen them for $389 shipped to an FFL.

I have had mine for nearly a year, put over 1000 rounds and it has never given me an ounce of problem.

I just bought a P95 and have not yet shot it. Everything I hear it is a very reliable pistol. I got it from Buds for $321(stainless) shipped. Excellent value. I have 5 Rugers now and they all go bang when you pull the trigger.

For the money Rugers are VERY difficult to beat.

That Bersa compact 9mm - especially in duotone, appears to be pretty sweet. Also seems to be unobtanium. Anybody got a line on when these will re-enter production?

I'd vote for the Ruger P95, S&W Sigma, and for a few bucks more, the SR9. It would be a 'can't go wrong' decision.

"Best Value? for a defensive 9mm", it depends on what you are defending. Best value is a Taurus PT-92. Cheapest is a Bersa or Walther P-01. Best carry gun in a small size 9mm the Beretta PX4 compact.

You need to define your terms!!

(This is my 6,000th post. I meant to make a big deal out of it, when I hit 3,4 and 5000, but I screamed past and forgot. anyway.)

I would always start with a Glock. A lot of people regard the 19 as ideal, I have a stubborn streak that says always start with the full size frame, I would look for a used Glock 17. I won't say they are "indestructable", all machines fail eventually, but you have to get more creative than most shooters will be in a lifetime to hurt one.

6,000 posts and your sig line still hasn't come true and is full of contradiction (scholar? says who? "someone said he said")

Someone said a P99 is being sold for 400...if its the AS 9mm buy it and then sell it. They go for 600 or so here in utah used.

You can carry a gun into a national park now.

While it was bush who passed it, you couldn't during Bush's presidency.

So you can keep your head in the sand all you want too.
:)

This is especially funny on a gun site where we blast people for reports from people who had second hand experience with a gun. No one gives them credit deservedly.

Used Glock 26. ~$450
That's not really a great price for a used glock, I paid $500 new for my 26 about 6 months ago, now you can find new ones for $460-$480 if you look hard enough. Personally I'd never pay more than $400 for a used glock, and even then it would have to be like new.

I am now a huge Ruger P95 fan.

I went to the range and shot 100 rounds with 99 out of 100 good shots. I had one FTE, but I attributed that to breaking in.

All in all for $350 total I am very impressed.
