better accuracy in my Xd .40

I have a carry permit so I picked up the Springfield XD compact in .40. I could shoot the hell out of if. 25 yds every thing within 2-4 inches.
When I picked up the Xd in 4 and 5 inch they were slinging shots all over the paper. (left right up and down..) I changed ammo. I’m thinking maybe my grip is somehow different. It’s not that I am a new shooter, I am almost 60, been shooting from age 6 on. I don’t want to give up on the Xd I like the system of safeties. But for a larger gun I want better accuracy.
any ideas?

sorry to hear that, and that is normally the opposite that happens to other people. i have a xd service model with iver 13,000rds through it, and i couldn't be happier accuracy is great, and 100% reliable. i had a sc and it was accurate to and i could shoot well with it, but all of my best work came for the service model. i was fascinated however how easy the little sc xd was to aquire the sights and fire quickly. i was also suprised that it had as little muzzle flip as it did.

I just loved the compact so well that I thought I would go for the longer barrels and the accuracy would be even better.
I keep thinking that some how my grip or my trigger pull is the screw up.
My best friend has a Kimber (which I lust after..) and I can shoot the hell out of that with just great groups round after round.
For my CCW I use to carry a Kahr, I like it, but (IMO) the compact beats it hands down, with more rounds to boot.
The only problem with the compact it’s a little thick, so if I have a light shirt on I pack the Kahr, but other wise it’s the Xd all the way.
If I have to, I might go to Sig, for the larger gun but I like the idea of the same system from my carry to the home defence. It’s also handy to have my wife understand one system.

i am in the same boat, i have a kahr that is my summer carry, but i tell you if you get you a good iwb holster for that sc you will be able to carry it anytime you want to really unless of course you are topless!

of all the xd's that i have shot/ owned/used/ trained with i have never had an issue with them being inaccurate, and you should be getting better groups with the service than the sc, and even a little better with the tactical model. you know though i have had my xd service for so long and i have shot/ trained with it so mmuch that no matter what other gun i can shoot or own, i can shoot good enough with them, but there is no other gun out there for any price tag that i can get more accuracy out of. if i needed to take an impossible shot then i would take the xd service of mine for sure. maybe this is the case with you and the sc, still strange but that might be the case.

I think that it’s almost all me. I think that it’s so very odd that I can’t shoot them well. I have various guns I shoot well, super 38, and a Ruger MkI that I cant tell you how many bricks I have shot thru it. I think I need someone to watch me and tell what the heck I am doing wrong.

The sad part is, there is too much of me inside my waist band..
I do like the Serpa for the Xd
For the Kahr I use a Yaqui paddle. I forget it’s even there.
