Colt commander type 1911 or Browning Hi Power? Wich will do it best? Please try not to use caliber as consideration- If anything dock points from the .45 because it means I can't afford to shoot it and train and become comfortable with it. So what do you think would be best and why for all around use?

I'd actuually go with a full-size M1911, which is what I carry.

For self-defense, it's ideal. You can make(or buy) shot shells that cycle the action (Ed Harris developed a die to make them from .308 cases), you can beef up the recoil spring to shoot .45 Super (equivallent ballistics to the .41 Magnum), add a .22 conversion kit, and so on.

I guess it's pretty simple for me. If one doesn't need a .45, then the Browning Hi Power is the way to go. It weighs the same and has an overall size comparable to the steel Commander, but is a more advanced design (more reliable out of the box and easier takedown, nice handling characteristics), and holds at least 13 rounds, with 15 and 17 round mags available. I never quite got the need for the steel Commander. If I wanted something smaller than the Colt Government, I'd also want something lighter, and the LW Commander is about 6 oz. lighter.

True. But if you're going to carry an M1911, why not carry it in .45 ACP?

The OP already answered this question for himself not for everyone.

I ask questions for others as well as myself because some of my friends are not very computer smart so I like to help them out, because I have a lot of free time being a teen and all.
