Mosin Nagant........what a Rifle!!

Well, weve been hunting as we do, and last week the wife was able to catch her first Brown Bear, using he VKT M-39.

Usually were very happy with one, and I have stepped aside a few times toi let a son take the meat making shot, but I already had caught a FAT young fella, we spotted this guy digging in a creek (dead moose frozen unde layers of ice we later saw) so she told me she was gonna catch this fella.......

What else to say but "OK?!"~~LOL!!~~

So we approched from above and I satrted yelling as loud as I could, and sure enough, he came up and outta the creek to have a look......would that qualify as "Calling 'em in??" ~~LOL!!~~ more like up and out of the creek.........

So I was filming and trying to tease but it got fairly serious when she put two in his neck, and one a running shot.

He hauled down the creek about 75 yards and ran outta blood..........

Apon disssassembly, we found she had passed the shots just below the spine completly removing the Arteries that lay along it and the gush was as good as a Heart shot for sure.

Shes 5'2" so either sitting at his butt made her look small or him look big, but he is longer than my snowgo, a longtrack Arctic Cat Bearcat, a bit over 10 feet long.

We doubt hes a record, but he's certainly worth the keep, and were gonna get 'em tagged and measured as soon as we can afford gas to go to Kotzebue to the FnG, 'cause they dont come to us.......120$ in gas,RT, what a pain.......

Congratulations very nice bear. Can we get some specifics as far as the ammo is concerned? Was it factory ro handloads?

That there is the wife with her Finn'd VKT(Valmet) made M-39 Mosin Nagant shooting Czech 147 grn. light ball FMJ:D

She grew up shooting for her elderly parents when their eyes were old.

She made that at about 200 yards Id say..... we didnt wanna spook it with the snowgo, just get him up, outta the creek so she could get a clean shot, and when I started filming he had stopped moving forward and was just checking us out, curious like.......

Best "solids" I have ever known:evil:.....I use 'em all around

Well, you can watch him fall out there, don't have to go tracking an animal in the brush. I prefer expanding bullets for hogs or anything else, but only because I don't treasure the idea of a tracking job in the heavy cover. That would go quadruple for a bear THAT big. :what: But, just looking at the terrain, probably been a couple billion years since a bush grew on it. ROFL!

Damned good shot placement. That always helps, of course.:D

If it interest you, I am getting a blog down, its taken awhile though. Its like talking to yourself, and I find myself looking for others opinions and such.
Anyway, I have found that posting on the blog I can get out more of whats hapening, and how it turns out wih the things I have at hand. No "This "forum or "that" forum....

So check it out if you want, theres alotta video now because were near freezing and I can get the batteries to last more than 30 seconds and not have fogged lenses anymore!~~LOL~~!

Thell me what ya think.......:scrutiny:

Awesome - two shots, two hits, 200 yards, iron sights and what - $159 rifle?

And people come up here and drop 10 or 20K on a hunt, with 3K worth of rifle and optics and manage to screw it up...

How's her cooking?

Caribou, tell her congrats...Wow, awesome bear. Looking forward to my brown bear hunt with my brother that lives on Kodiak...Hoped I'd get an eight or a nine footer, but that one is what bear dreams are made of... I like that ..He's a whopper...

You are so right....and often the myth of the "need" of supertech supermagnum boomers and equipment is kept well alive by some clowns that call themselves "experienced Alaska sport guides..."

Some of these people should have a chat with our friend Caribou...

earlthegoat2

They worked for shooting the polar bears in Scandanavia so why not the Brownies in Alaska.

i really hope ur joking,i thought it was a myth about Americans beliving we have polarbears here :uhoh:

but we got normal brownbears and i swear our ukkopekka's/pystykorvat and Lotta rifles have killed a fair share of them :p.

to TS how far behind the bear is she sitting?

From Wikipedia: "The range includes the territory of five nations: Denmark (Greenland), Norway(Svalbard), Russia, US (Alaska) and Canada. These five nations are the signatories of the 1973 International Agreement for the Conservation of Polar Bears, which mandates cooperation on research and conservations efforts throughout the polar bear's range."

Svalbard = Norway = Scandinavia. The connection to Denmark is of course a bit tenuous; it's proprietary rather than physical.

There is a map of the distribution at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polar_bears
