Off topic but the finest firearm I’ve ever handled in my life was a classic 4 inch python. Ohhhhh my the prancing pony lived up to its reputation that day. It was Devine

Me too. Get a new one. It's 10x the gun the old anaconda was.

Now if you "had an old python" then you screwed up. The new one just isn't the old one.

Just what things are 10 times better with the new Anaconda vs. our old ones? If what you say is true the new Anaconda must be quite the handgun! I’ve got 3 Blackhawk 45 Colts and a Smith X frame 460 too. I think I’ve got it pretty well covered, oh yes, a couple 357s and a 44 mag and a 35 Remington Contender, just for fun.

During the first half of production the original was inaccurate. They changed barrels eventually but two of the three I used were terrible. It also had coil springs rather than leaf so the pythons perfect trigger was very much absent. The new one has leaf springs and a much better smoother trigger (albeit heavy in da and sa modes alike). None of the three i used had great lockup either and all three were new. The new ones have Excellent lockup. And since the original was not hand fitted with machined parts solid parts (like the Python) and used investment cast parts (like a smith or Ruger) .....to fix the timing wasn't a re fitting issue it was a back to colt for new cast parts issue.

One of the worst things about the new python is that you give up the beautiful "royal blue" finish. The original anaconda was only available in the easier to produce stainless (or camo) so you give up nothing and gain a better trigger, stronger frame, better lockup.....

Use a Python and an old anaconda and the difference is glaring. Ive heard some Anaconda were ok but even before the internet the Anaconda was the colt that most colt guys didn't want. If not for the resemblance to a certain character in a bad tv shows gun, it wouldn't be so valuable. It lacks everything that made the python so loved.

To each his own. Mine exceeds my expectations, non of the problems you describe. Then again I’m not lifetime authority on handguns, especially Colts. I’ve got one of those good for nothing Trooper Mk lll too. Good enough for my purposes. Your mileage seems to vary.

Added two new Ruger handguns to my “armory” the last couple of weeks.

Both are 5.5” barrels. First one is in 44 Magnum, second is 45 Colt / 45acp. Don’t think either s going to be a primary hunting handgun, but you never know.
