If I had one near I'd buy all of the Monarch 7.62x39 and .223. I can't find any .223 for under $0.50 a bang.

Do they have a box limit?

Independence is still $8.99 in El Paso? Ours went up to $9.99. Monarch steel .223 is the same here at $5.99 which used to be $4.49. I wish they were still getting Tula, the Monarch stuff is crappy. The AE and Winchester seem rather high. I paid $7-9 for that stuff not long ago.

I was at Academy two days ago at around 3 pm. There were plenty of centerfire hunting ammo, shotgun of all flavor , 10mm, magnum calibers, .3006 , etc. No .22 LRs and pistol ammo. They have Monarch .357 mag in JHP for $21. I got one as i havent seen those for a long while.

As to .22 LR the sales rep said that Katy branch had some in the 525 rd box but you have to fall in line at 3 am . I wouldnt want to do that just to get ammo. Im sleeping rather than losing sleep. LOL

I wonder how long the ammo lasted? at least its good they have ammo and are rationing/limiting purchases.

I heard Dicks (GASP!) also was receiving a good shipment on Friday morning of bulk 22lr according to the gun counter clerk. No, I didn't line up with the others who wait for the store to open...

was there any difference besides the text on the box?

I've seen and used both the AE 5.56 and 223 ammo in the black box. It looks almost identical except for the 5.56 - 223 designation, and both in 55gr.

American Eagle also offers 30rd boxes of the 5.56 in stripper clips (still have a box of that lying around)

If you want to shoot then thats what you do. Also sometimes that box you het to buy has 1,000 rounds in it or 420 rounds of 62gr 5.56 on stripper clips. One never knows if the have bulk ammo or if all you can get is one box each in 3 calibers. My take on Friday was one box of 9mm and a 325 round box of Federal AutoMatch. Some days you hit the jackpot and some days you get nothing you need
There is also the growing social aspect. I've made a bunch of new friends waiting in the cold for Academy to open. All in all its been a positive experience.

I wished all that 22LR. would head east to Houston.
I have not seen any 22LR at any Academy here since early January.
Luckily I have obtained two bricks at regular prices from two different online dealers.
Still...

I have bought bulk Remington Golden Bullet a year ago for $14 a box . It has a thicker rim and doesnt feed on my Walther G22 but does okey with my Marlin 880 bolt action.
The best bulk ammo to have are the Federal and Winchester Super X which are none in stock as of the moment.

I don't know guys, things may be easing a bit in some places, but up here, we're bone dry.

You know it's bad when people start buying up the Blazer Brass .45, being small primer, and kind of shunned, it is usually the last thing sitting on the shelf. I stopped in at my local GM yesterday and Blazer Brass was the only .45 left on the shelf. All the other target ammo has been looted. Defensive High $ stuff was all that was left.

Asked about primers and got a very sad look from the clerk.

Bummer. I actually snagged 5000 LPP of Natchezss, but I'm probably the only guy in the U.P. with primers on the way. . . It's bad up here. real bad.

Well at least you have 45. I haven't seen any at the LGS or Academy. We are getting some 22lr but no 45acp and you also can forget about 45lc as ot has simply vanished. My guess for the lack of 45lc lies with the primer shortage. I guess what primers they have are being used for 45acp. Just a guess mind you.

I stopped by Academy this morning and I was surprised...they actually had some .22LR on the shelf. I don't know what they had when the open the door but here is a quick list and prices that I remember.

-CCI Mini-mags $7.99
-Armscor

.223/5.56 (20 round boxes)
-Winchester 55gr $11.99
-American Eagle XM856 64gr Tracer $12.99
-American Eagle 50gr Varmint $12.99
-Independence 55gr $9.99
-Hornady Whitetail $17.99

7.62x39
-Tula $5.99

.308
-I don't remember all of them but they had 5 different to choose from
-Federal Fusion $26.99

9mm
-Federal Premium JHP $24.99

.40
-Federal Premium JHP
-CCI Pest Control Shot Shells $15.99

Stopped by the lower valley academy about 30 min after store opened. No .22 or 9mm. I don't recall seeing any .223 or .40sw, but I admit to having tunnel vision. The customer service guy said that they get trucks in Monday, Wednesday, and Friday so I'll try again later I suppose. Those of you who want .45acp might want to give the lower valley store a call, swear I saw some.

They did have Tula and monarch 7.62x39, $5.99.

I have managed to buy a box of Tula 7.62x39 for the past four days for my dad and brother, since they are unable to find it in their towns. I managed to get two boxes of the Independence 5.56 (one per visit). Academy is about a mile from my work so I'm able to go in the morning and after I get off. Word around here is that they get trucks on Tuesdays, so I guess I'll be there tomorrow again (today it was all gone, everything).

Dick's and BassPro are worthless when it comes to ammo.

I went to a BassPro over the weekend. The only pistol ammo on the shelves was .50AE and .45 Colt. The only .22LR ammo was shot shells. The reloading shelves were totally empty.
