I'm looking for a summer CCW and I decided against the Kahr K9 Elite I almost bought (or any Kahr for than matter), and was considering a J-frame revolver. I had a S&W model 60 with a 3" barrel that I sold last year ( STILL kicking myself for letting that go :banghead: ) I think with an action/trigger job and the right grips, that gun would have worked well. Lesson learned. It will be my primary ccw for work.... anything from shorts/t-shirt to business casual, physically active job ( concrete QA/QC ), and ultra discretion a MUST. I prefer a stainless steel frame , 3" barrel (may consider 2 1/2"), the ability to add fixed nightsights.
Anyhow, I have medium size hands and I don't like the "pinky dangle". Does anyone make some nice grips for the J frame that's a little bigger than stock ones that provide a stable parking place for the pinky ? By the way, it will ride in a quality IWB holster on a dedicated gun belt (something off the shelf at first, just until a custom rig is ordered/received), and be fed a diet of .38's for practice and .38+P for carry. Any suggestions for some grips that will make the J frame work for me ???

I have a set of pachmayrs on my 642. They are great, cover the backstrap with rubber (basically eliminates sting), and provides a real, full handed grip without giving up much concealability.

Here's a set of wood Hogue monogrips. Helps out that pinkie dangle, but still isn't too big for concealing.

sgist beat me too it. The CT 305 Laser grips might be worth looking at in your case. They are thicker and a 1/4" longer than the stock grips plus they are the same material the Hogue grips are(that real grippy rubber) and you get a laser!

Blckthree, where did you get those grips? The wood Hogues on Brownells are not that color, and yours look fantastic. That's what I want.

I have the Pachmayr grip, but its too big for concealed carry.

I got them from Hogue's Auction site a year or two ago. I don't remember what type of wood they said they were. There didnt appear to be any available for a round butt J-frame right now, but you could always get them directly from Hogue.

The ones I got were cosmetic seconds, I never found the defect, the thing i liked about the auaction site is you are seeing a picture of the actual grip you are buying. If you buy them direct from Hogue http://www.getgrip.com/index.html you see a representation of what they should look like based on the wood type you choose. I have a set of Tulipwood grips coming in tomorrow for my 29-2 blue S&W. It has the target grips, but they are too big for my hand.

Find a set of Fitz Gunfighter grips, no longer made but still around. There are currently a pair on eBay. Available in both wood and plastic.

Great grips, absolutely fantastic feel. If you want larger grips, these are the ones.

I love Herret's Shooting Ace. Grips. have them on two J frames.

I think I have a kinda beat up set that I got with dreams of refinishing. That dream is dead. Will sell cheap if you want them (and I can find them).

I love the unkle mike's #59010 i just put on my 642.much easier to conseal than the pachmayr and still comfortable even shooting +p rounds.i did my best shooting with these last night about a 6" group at 25'

Fitz is one of the Moderators here

Any questions about Fitz pistol grips and what I have remaining from my factory burning in 1979 just ask as I am Fitz Grips retired 1979.
PM me for pictures of Smith, Colt, Ruger or High Standard only. Some styles have one or none or several left just ask.

On this recently acquired S&W mod.36, I'm trying the Hogue bantam boot grip.
They conceal well and are shootable with +P.

I've recently bought a 649 that came with Hogue Bantam boot grips. I'm now sold on these grips. They just feel right to me. Like all rubber grips, they don't look especially nice, but they feel right in my hand - far better than the Uncle Mikes boot grips.

Any suggestions for a J-Frame with squared butt?

I'm looking for low-profile rubber, preferably ones that don't extend the grip, but do provide a little more meat in the front & finger grooves.

Fitz SQuare Butt J Grips

I have provided hundreds to NYPD in the past and to retired NYPD officers now and to owners of where the old NYPD weapons were sold when they modernized???.

PM me for my address for pictures.

Years ago our Govt sold 500 Smith J RB pistols to Egypt and they wanted my ebony color Duramite J Gunfighter grips installed on them for the sale to be approved and completed. I did not mind a bit and made an over run for my own inventory.

My factory burnt in 1979 and I am still asked for grips. Luckily I had a supply in my home office that my grandkids reminded me they found in our family ranch barn in 2002 and I am making them available while they last.

I have a 60-15 S&W, 3' J frame, I started with the factory grips then Houge mono grips then Pachmayr Grippers, I finally settled on the Pachmayr Compact grips. They have a place for the pinky, feel a little fat but work the best so far.

Rob1035 says:<I have a set of pachmayrs on my 642. They are great, cover the backstrap with rubber (basically eliminates sting), and provides a real, full handed grip without giving up much concealability>.

I agree. The Pachmayr Compac is the best compromise of comfort, size, secure grip and recoil handling for a pocket revolver (J-frame, Colt D- frame, Charter Bulldog). I have tried Hogue Bantams (a rubber boot style), Hogue monogrips with full finger grooves, Standard S&W Magnas, etc. and for me the Pachmayr Compac is the best all-around. The little pinky cutout on the front strap solves the pinky dangle problem and the wrap around style helps with the recoil bite (important if you have a light revolver and a hot load). IMHO and YMMV, of course.

Fitz Police Gunfighter Pistol Grips

Fitz grips were designed back in the 1920's for police wanting a much better grip than the traditional plowboy grip handles. Interviews with many police and feedback on what they liked we made and became their grip as natural as pointing a finger in the dark and from the hip.

This resulted in the Fitz line of Smith and Colt police grips that were sold for civilian use as Fitz Gunfighter grips and anyone feeling and shooting with them loved them. As a result of Fitz being the first pistol grip company from 1919 our inovative grip design features have been much copied since by todays grip makers since my factory molds and tooling were destroyed in 1979 and I retired.

I have had a stash of grips as part of my survival retreat/ranch as I was a Deputy Marshal trained as the Nuclear Disaster Shelter manager for the downtown Los Angeles civic center courthouse in the 1960's when people were digging fall out shelters in their back yards and JFK was President.

I am selling my survival stash that I and my kids no longer need on ebay with lots of good ebay feedback. My remaining grips pictures are at my pictures site [email protected]

Though they leave your pinky dangling, Uncle Mike's boot grips fill the hand well in my experience and are quite concealable even for pocket carry. they're an adaption of the Spiegel Boot Grips available in wood. I've owned the Pachmayr Compacs on J frames and they're large for pocket carry and the rubber is grabby. I do like the feel, though, fills the hand well. I have 'em on my little .22 kit gun.

I'd check out the new Crimson Trace Laser Grips for J-Frame LG-405.
I can't wait till the price come down a bit. I was just waiting for the rubber LG's, I knew they were coming!
