You can now put "AR15" on the front of any weapon or device used to kill someone...this allows one to maximize the panic and alarm needed to try to push bad legislation through congress.

For instance...a man hiking in Yellowstone park was killed by an AR15 Grizzly Bear today. Or Syrian strongman Hassad used "AR15 Sarin Gas" on his own people last month.
AR15 drinking and driving kills too many people every year...there's really no limit. Come up with a few of your own...it's easy and fun.

If it was run by maroons I'd like them...especially if they were coconut maroons.

I've heard of it...it's a 5 round detachable mag shotgun designed to look like an AR...but it's not an AR. Nor is it an AR15 shotgun...it's an MKA 1919...an Akdal shotgun if you wish...but not an AR15 shotgun.

In my mind the mistake is similar to calling an el camino a pickup truck.

Maroons was a polite term for morons. And yes it is not an AR but it looks like one. Which is close enough for most people. At 20 yards there aren't many people who, at a glance, could tell a difference. Especially if there is someone shooting.

He had a Remington 870. I'm pretty sure that counts as an AK47 or maybe a Glock.

I agree that many people couldn't tell the difference in the heat of the moment...but in this case the shooter was using a Remington 870...so they have no excuse at all for getting this wrong.

And I'm still hungry for some maroons...but all i have is Nilla Wafers...which will have to do...

    GSPN,
I completely agree. An 870, no matter how decked out, is still a pump gun. And I'm sure his wasn't "tacted" out. I know it's just the MSM in all their glory trying to "be the first" with the most riveting news spot. And as a result it's another smudge on the evil black rifle's reputation as a WMD.

The news report I saw stated he had a pistol, an AR-15 AND a shotgun.

That's the problem we're talking about...many of the initial reports were wrong.

If you seriously think that a MKA 1919 isn't "close enough" to be reasonably referred to as an AR 15 shotgun, you're as guilty as drinking your own koolaid as the antigunners are. That level of semantics simply doesn't matter.

(Now, I know that's not CNN's misinformed point, but stilll...)

The point is that it wasn't an AR-15, or even a MKA 1919! It was a Remington 870 shotgun!

CNN was totally wrong! They don't even remotely resemble each other!

I don't know why you defend the anti-gun CNN, and the other Main-stream Media types who gave out false information, but I bet you would be the first to jump on a Conservative web site or news outlet over some perceived mistake, especially if they were gun friendly.

That is something I have noticed about many THR members and Moderators, they seem very willing to dismiss or attack news outlets they perceive as Conservative, but defend Left-wing Liberal anti-gun News sites with a proven record of falsehood and lies.

    Where do you notice that?
If anything, the tendency on most gun boards is to attack the left and enshrine the right...
Anyhow, CNN did plainly misreport on this one. It was just as likely out of stupidity as it was out of intentionally misrepresenting anything, but still, they didn't report the truth.
Just calling the weapon a shotgun that anyone who can pass a background check can buy almost anywhere isn't sensational enough, so it has to be altered and made to be more menacing.

But it is a bunch of BS.

FWIW, one of my arguments against an AW or magazine capacity ban the last time I argued with an indoctrinated supporter of the current administration was that this would happen again even if all semi-autos were confiscated. He muttered at me in disbelief as I described how dangerous a shotgun firing buck shot could be in a confined area, then suggested banning buckshot.
Because something that's been around since forever and that anyone with a round ball mould can make over a campfire... you can ban that, right?
And now, here we are with a tragic example of what an active shooter can do with one.

When will they learn that it's not the gun, but the person who wields it?

I yearn for the days when the media had integrity. When they reported the news they reported Who, What, Why, When, Where and How. Editorials were left for the opinion page.

    Did I say AR-15, oops!

So now it comes out that there was no AR-15 at the DC Navy Yard shooting despite reports by officials on the scene, and reported many times by the media.

I guess AR-15, assault rifle, etc. just rolls off the tongue easier than traditional pump shotgun, a Remington 870, and is surely more sensational. But hey, that's what makes the news so interesting, you have to pick and choose for the actual facts.

90% of people who read the original articles will never read the follow up stating the correction, and another shooting will be attributed to "assault weapons". Anti's will probably know the truth, but choose to ignore it.

Nothing like accurate official statements and accurate reporting.

Here's a later NY Times article with the correct info. http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/18/u...hpw&_r=0&gwh=70FFD70EC60336CF888D48BAA2960272

The antis immediately start saying AR-15 right away whenever there's an event of this nature to connect AR-15 and mass shootings as often as possible.

Even after we learned there was no AR-15 in use by the Navy Yard shooter, they keep saying the words so that people will hear mass shooting and AR-15 in the same context, thus to reinforce the association.
