During one of his telecasts last week following the events in Colorado, he called for the FBI to collect the names of people who buy so-called assault weapons. Apparantely, under this system, current and future owners would be required to file paperwork with the FBI if they sell their gun to a third party. This way, the FBI will know who has posession (or at least ownership) of these weapons of mass destruction.

Hey, we register our cars; right? Why not our assault waepons too?

This is a very bad idea and it could lead to gun confiscation at the national, state or local jurisdiction level in the future.

Let's not create a national registry for guns.

I would like to think that O'Reilly would like to take back his comments on that particular subject. He didn't think it completely thorugh from a practical point of view. What would a registry accomplish relative to the Aurora incident? I always saw him as a true independant. Well, I am not so sure anymore. But he has a right to say what he wants to and of course we have the right to not watch his show or buy his books.
