Bin Laden Offers Truce to Europe

DUBAI (Reuters) - Arab television stations aired a new audio tape purportedly from Osama bin Laden on Thursday offering a truce with European states if they stop attacking Muslims, but not with the United States.
The voice on the tape, broadcast by Dubai-based Al Arabiya channel and then by Qatar-based Al Jazeera station, said there would be no truce with the United States.

The taped message also vowed revenge on Israel for the death of Hamas leader Ahmed Yassin, killed last month in Gaza.

It was not immediately possible to verify the authenticity of the tape though the voice sounded like previous tapes thought to be genuine. The CIA has said some previous tapes purportedly from bin Laden were likely to be genuine.

Bin Laden's al Qaeda network is blamed by Washington for the September 11, 2001, attacks on U.S. cities.

The tape said the March 11 train bombings in Madrid that killed 191 people were payment for Spain's actions in Iraq, Afghanistan and "Palestine."

"What happened on September 11 and March 11 are your goods returned to you so that you know security is a necessity for all," the voice on the tape said.

Madrid sent troops to Iraq after Saddam Hussein was toppled and also has a contingent in Afghanistan. Militants claiming links to al Qaeda have claimed responsibility for the Madrid bombings, which have raised pressure on the government to withdraw Spanish troops from Iraq.

If the UK does something as foolish as that, I Hope the US Gov't at least helps the US Citizens here get back to the US, I'm fairly positive that they would, but there's always some moron in a high place that has "other ideas" about things like that, something probably like "Un Necessary Expense" or some other crud...

I for one Definatly do not want to be in the UK if they or the EU decide to side with Osama...

This is an attempt to divide and conquer, you do not need to be Napoleon to see that. Anyway Usama is only one leader he cannot guarantee that other independent muslim groups will not attack European targets.

Any truce would only be temporary anyway, this has been the pattern throughout history. As soon as Europe "offended" muslims again there would be an excuse to resume the European campaign of the jihad.

The man speaking on the tape says the truce with Europe will begin as soon as all European soldiers leave Islamic nations. He said there would be no truce with America.

The message vowed revenge against the United States for Israel's killing last month of militant Hamas founder Sheik Ahmed Yassin. The tape says American policy ignores what is described as "the real problem", which the voice says is the occupation of Palestine.

Didn't Hitler offer a pact to Stalin in 1939 or something then when the Brits evacuated at Dunkirk, Hitler invaded the Soviet Union to take their oil fields etc?

Never compromise with terrorists. Terrorism is a repugnant and appalling tactic and therefore should nullify any negotiation and compromise.

However, Spain, Britain, Germany and the European Commission have all rejected such a move, with EC President Romano Prodi saying there was "no possibility for negotiation under [a] terrorist threat".

"Their attacks are against the very idea of co-existence... To hide in the face of the threat is not an answer.

"The right response is to continue to confront terrorism, not give in to its demands."

David Blunkett, the Home Secretary, said that British and coalition troops would not be deflected from their work.

Muhammad entered into a treaty with the Quraysh in 628 and in the 22 months after signing the treaty he made new conquest and alliances. In December 629 due to what some scholars say was a minor infraction to the treaty he marched in force to Mecca in preparation of an assault and the Quraysh surrendered without a fight due to the impressive size of his army. This is the same incident (The Hudaybya) that Arafat referred to while addressing the Palestine people upon entering the Oslo peace agreement. Peace agreements are simply convenient to the end goal of an Islamic State.

I think this is an interesting development and may show some desperation on the part of Al Queda in breaking the world alliance.

Any county that accepts the offer should immediately have all US aid cut off and if a member of NATO, kicked out. The US should close all embassies in those countries and eject that country's embassy from the US. In addition, ban all direct commercial air flights from that country and not accept that country's passport for entry into the US.
