Binds up while hand cycling

I have a springfield GI .45. I've put a couple hundred rounds through it and it has been reliable but when hand cycling live rounds it tends to keep the round hooked in the extractor instead of ejecting them. It looks like the case might be riding up over the ejector instead of hitting it and being dislodged. This only happens with a magazine in the gun.

I'd like to be able to reliably hand cycle rounds in case of a dud. Is there a way I can fix this?

Thanks,
Jake

I can't see no way a 1911 could allow a cartridge to "ride up over the ejector".

Try taking the recoil spring out and put the gun back together without it.
Then try it.

If it works then, you just ain't trying hard enough while fighting the spring.

The other thing it might be is, if you have one of the plastic Shok-Buffs on the spring guide.
If you do, take it out and throw it in the trash.

I don't have a shock buffer, and i really don't think its an issue of me not racking the slide hard enough. Without a mag, I can ease the slide open and the round pops right out. With a mag in the gun, I can rack the slide as hard as i can and half the time the round ends up halfway across the room and half the time it just sits there pulled straight back out of the chamber and then binds up when the slide closes.
