I've been using Pure Tung Oil to finish a new Springfield Armory M1A walnut stock, which I though looked pretty unremarkable out of the box.

A few coats into the job, I can tell the Tung Oil is making an improvement, but I might want to shine it up just a bit. The Pure Tung Oil is fairly matte.

So my plan is to finish a few more coats of Tung Oil to fully treat the wood, but then apply a coat or two of Birchwood-Casey Gun Stock Wax to get a slightly more glossy finish. Has anyone else used this stock wax? I've never used a stock wax before, so my concern is that wax is something that will ooze from the wood and end up all over your hands and cheek on a hot, muggy day. Is that the case?

Thanks for any input.

I've never tried the wax, but the tung oil usually does a pretty good job of giving you that eggshell-like finish that still brings out the grain. If you use the wax, and happen to have a camera, post some pics. I'd like to see what it looks like myself.

Heck, post pics even if you don't use it. I wanna see that M1A!

I`ve used the Birchwood casey wax and it won`t give a noticable shine to your stock. The wax is a duller finish that is meant as more of a protectent then fuinish IMO. I use it on the hidden parts of the barrel and action to prevent rust and on wood stocks to help water proof them.
